I received a call and an email from a group currently targeting small business owners in Geelong (and statewide). I've been asked to report the email I received as cyber crime by VicPol to ACORN and in person. I thought I'd share so no one gets caught out. The representatives that contacted me cannot provide VP, VY, VD or VF numbers (police registration numbers).

Group: Emergency Media / Australian Police Football Association Inc.

I think this whole industry is a joke , especially the reply on this thread from a “ Brian ruderbech” . Brian has an identity problem , and is a hypocrite. Brian is now working for another “ bogus publisher “ from his home ( more media group) ringing on behalf of disabled soldiers ??? And evidently older retired police officers throwing a rugby ball around once a year or two .Brian is doing exactly what he says he’s not doing in his post on this thread , telling lies. Telling lies to line his own pocket , and telling lies to business owners all around Australia from the comfort of his own home , of course , where he can tell lies . Please everyone, if your contacted by More Media Group , or a “ Jim young “ asking for credit card numbers over the phone ( who is actually “ more media gripes director “ Justin Sadler ) give this mob a big miss , just refuse to pay , as they only print books for the people who takes ads out . big scam out of queen st Melbourne . As for Brian , he used to be a pro liar for emergency media as well .

To Nostradamus.. I decided to leave the company & the industry as I felt guilty for ripping off all these hard working Businesses that have thrown their hard earned $$ away .. I have nothing to gain from this .. I apologise for doing thecrite thing & for telling people that the $$$ was going straight to the Police & there families .. yes I did get 35% & my mate Alan (Aldo) did get the other 75 % & the books looked like a 5 year old got a stapler & some paper & put the whole thing together ... I highly suggest that you hold on to your $$ & give it to a cancer foundation or some other organisation that needs the $$$ .. & please note every comment defending this program are from the owners or highly paid commission agents . I rest my case ...

Caller: Re/ I use to work for this company

It’s as simple as this ladies & gentleman.. the people on the phone are all paid commission 35% with no set wage or super or base salary .. so they are forced to be ruthless on the phone in order to earn a wage .. now the organisations they represent may get a small royalty $$$ but the rest of the $$ gets pocketed by the directors of these companies.. now most emergency services wouldnt even read or get these publications.. so your hard working $$ would go down the toilet .. my suggestion if you need toilet paper by all means advertise & use that publication accordingly .. to all those that have posted faultless reviews are surely from those that work for the company .. so make it of it what you will ...

(Dodgy insert in an old magazing problem a second print run with scammed people's photocopied business cards not matching the style or format of the magazine )
I was contacted by e media about advertising in the police football association magazine the speel sounded great, I agreed to a small ad.I got cold feet and the telemarkrter phoned me back to reasure me that it was locally distributed and current and pressured me.I got cold feet but he said it was to late
I said I did not want to pay untill I saw a copy .Nothing happened and I assumed I had narrowly missed out on being scammed.
Then I finally recieved a copy many months later lo and behold the mag thin professionally printed mag with articles and ads and in the centre was an afterthought poorly printed not matching the magazines style or format clearly a scam I have refused to pay and was contacted by emergency media where the lady yell at me this reassured me that it was definitely a scam I had nothing back for months and months and now this year I have received debt collectors letters I am an honest person and feel that I would take this to the court have looked into how to do this anyone else feel they have been ripped off please contact me

Keep getting calls from a Peter West claiming to be from qld commissioners Union who sounded very legit. He wanted us to pay $395 + gst to have our small business ad in their QPCOUE diary. We told him we would have a think about it & he emailed info out. We also received a text message which was basically a contract 'I C******* B****** of (my business name) would like to sponsor an ad in the QPCOUE diary at the cost of $395+GST. Confo email www.qpcoue.com.au Please AGREE to confirm. Thx for your help'. When we didn't reply Peter phoned back a further 3 times from 3 different mobiles the same day, wanting us to agree to txt or email. I checked the address of the email sent & it's from emergency media pty ltd which are known for scamming small businesses for $$. No doubt we'll be getting an invoice in the mail, even though we haven't agreed to anything.

Very annoyed that they continue to harass & charge hard working people.

These scamming scum got our info off gumtree and the day after we posted our ad.

I was just contacted by mobile numbers 0431 442 793, 0412 391 582, 0403 648 793 regarding advertising in APFA police football mag. The address is a lane-way with a rolla door, the police do not know who "Zac Cook (Director – Australian Police Football Association Inc.)" as signed on the bottem of the e-mail is. The web site is poor for an advertising company, should I go on?
Case number with Consumer Affers is C2016-02-003218, to report by e-mail is consumer @ justice.vic.gov.au

I have advertised with them twice and have been contacted again. I have done many searches and have yet to decide if they are lawful or not. Recieved only a web address to look at the magazine and never a magazine. emailed me numerous payment slips and called me many times even though we agreed i would pay just before magazine release.
Is there any way to find if this is a safe and secure organization that is actually helping the police and ambulance etc or a great marketing scam costing me 1000's of dollars.
need proof and facts one way or another.

In the last week we have been bombarded with calls from various media publishers pushing us to advertise in a number of the publications mentioned in this thread. Although we have refused to proceed with any ads, I am now playing the waiting game to see if they try to pull the same shifty moves and bullying tactics they seem to have pulled with a number of other small businesses. I am no Lawyer, however I have done some studies in Australian business & consumer law and it would appear that under the Australian Consumer Laws that came into affect on 1 January 2011, it is unlawful to request payment for unsolicited goods or services, including requesting/demanding payment for unauthorised advertisements that appear in any form of media. Unless the publisher has received written authorisation from you to proceed with any such advertising, they are essentially breaking the law and you should consider contacting the ACCC to confirm & report this. You could also refer to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) (CCA) for further clarification of your situation. The ACCC has also published various consumer guides that cover situations like these that are readily available on the web, google them and have a read (they are very easy to read and understand). In particular you should refer to the Australian Consumer Law guide titled Sales Practices: a guide for businesses and legal practitioners. In a nutshell, these unscrupulous publishers have no right to request or demand payment if they have not received written authorisation from you, and you are NOT obliged to pay them regardless of their threatening and bullying behaviour. I suggest you seek further legal advice if you find yourselves on the receiving end of their bullying and shady business practices. Good luck!

I think be cautious as they get you to sponsor and then they send you a copy of the magazine but they only print out magazines to people that actually pay. So that being said it would be a scam. If they get 100 Sponsors they print up 100 magazines and that is it. Good money and none would go to the organizations that actually you think they are supporting.

I agreed to advertise in one of Emergency Medias publications because they sounded ok, and local. This was in Feb, for a publication to be released in July. "Don't worry about payment until 30th June."
For 4 mths I was called and contacted by them trying to get an advance payment. It was constant and EXTREMELY annoying. I refused.
Add to that the other "industries" contacting me since then. Police, paramedics, firies, ambulance, blah blah blah. I must admit it took me awhile to realise it was the same marketing company. At that point I kindly asked them to take me off their list, but the phone kept ringing asking for more advertising. They were all polite and obviously just doing their job, but it is soooo annoying.
Now..... I have the magazine. I can't see a publication why. Maybe it's the only one! The bill is overdue. I have put it on low priority due to their annoying behaviour. The phone now rings every day, leaving very rude voice messages asking for the money.
Yes, I will pay it, but I will NEVER EVER do this again.

I have just received a call which seems legit, however I was a little suspicious and will not be following up with this ad. The fact that they use the names of 1960s crooners as their executive seems a little odd Jack Jones, Alan Miller!!!

I do believe it may be unethical so buyer beware, I guess
