Hi all, So I think i can help alot in this thread! I have spent several months researching this whole industry - as I myself was called a few times and advertised with them. (Emergency Media Pty Ltd). Firstly I was invited into their office in Melbourne (which was quite nice by the way) and saw the whole thing in and out. Fore mostly - it's not a scam at all, and i feel guilty for comments I originally posted. So pretty much it works like this.
These emergency services - ambulance & police etc, have their own societies or associations - and write up articles and content to distribute round to other people in their same profession - Kind of like us starting a group together and a publication. The issue is - the government isn't going to provide funding for this sort of stuff, and why would they?
So they partner with publishing companies (the one i dealt with was emergency media ltd) & the companies take on the cost so that they can produce their journals. I actually have a few live magazines at home - it's info like paramedic stuff and science, forensics etc - which i'm not really interested in but maybe someone in that field would be.
The company i gather would cover their costs from support advertising etc.
what i discovered were that there are many scams out there that use the emergency services name - but don't produce any magazines!~which to my surprise these guys aren't one of.
When i went in, there were editors there & people running around talking about graphics - which i'd be very impressed @ their acting skills if it was a scam!

I actually met Peter and Allan - sure they are salesmen, and can be kind of pushy, but after doing some thinking i thought, well... yeah? that's what salesmen do!

I also asked why they contact from mobile numbers, and the answer was embarassingly obvious - its a call centre/campaign room type environment, so the numbers are outgoing numbers (i'm not really a tech guy but i guess some kind of machine that does this? - maybe someone can provide more insight on that)
so, long story short - i hope this helps people who may be receiving these type of calls - did I get much business out of the ad? - not really; maybe 1 or 2, but i can understand that without these guys trying to get $, theres no magazine for those societies or whatever. I probably won't advertise in the future, maybe in a few years - but atleast i know i'd only listen to the folks @ emergency media melb, i'm sure theres others, but i won't research any further,I guess i'm kinda a convert after the experience. & being an honest person I wanted to correct my earlier comments, it's really not fair to be calling scam just out of ignorance!
Hope this helps!

Why is this a scam with APFA?? Just because they have called asking for help what makes it a scam? I have advertised with them, they have a decent .com.au website, all seems legit to me. They have called me the last 3 years and did not pressure me, this year I decided to help them out. Where is the evidence it is a scam?

Total scam!
They called me yesterday and I said I'd been contacted by them before, so asked for a contact phone number and for them to email me the information.
The number they called me on was 0402 311 403, which when I tried calling back wasn't accepting incoming calls. Message advised its only set up for out bound calls. The guys name was Adam Palmer, apparently. When I called the number they gave me of 1300 855 444, I was told that Adam wasn't at his desk but that he'd call me back. No return phone call and nothing sent via email.
Scam!

Hello Suzie. Yes - received my copy of the the APFA magazine. It is the police FOOTBALL association that publishes this, not the police association. They are two different groups. probably why the people you spoke with haven't heard of it. There is plenty of info on online about APFA

I contributed to the mental health mag they publish. Top quality, if not one of the best i've come across - looks like they work with and promote a few reputable institutions also.

It's pretty basic knowledge that scam companies do NOT publicise their address, ABN or phone number. This company is fully transparent regarding those details for those who bother to look. Not hiding anything..

Got the same call from APFA about the journal last Friday. I have reported this to ACORN the same day. But I have no reply to confirm this. When I checked for the website last Friday there is nothing I could find but today there is a newly done website www.policefootball.com.au. No response from ACORN to confirm this is a scam.

How do you know this is a scam? I unfortunately have paid for 2 ads to be placed in their journal and I don't know how to investigate or confirm if this is a legit company.

there is no evidence of any wrong doing here, these are sales people asking you to sponsor publications otherwise without funding, usually for emergency services sector. you do not have to agree to anything if you don't want to!

I was contacted by mobile numbers few days ago by Ryan Wheeler regarding advertising in APFA police football magazine. everything seems real but I had a feeling that it could be a scam but what it make it real all their nbrs, websites and employees are local.
Can someone tells me if Australian Police Football Association are a scam or real association you may send an email to sales @ precisionautomation.com.au
