DEBT COLLECTOR, POSSIBLE PHISHING SCAM
Cold call from an unidentified number. Female caller with a mild Indian (?) accent, identified herself as 'Amy' from Baycorp, and advised that the call was being recorded (for training & QA purposes). Call quality was clear, with no delay, indicating it originated within Sydney.
Caller identified me by name (which I confirmed), and asked me to provide my D.O.B. to verify my identity. I declined, asking her to provide the D.O.B. she was seeking to match, which I would confirm or reject. She refused (PHISHING ALERT!).
I asked the reason for the call and she said it was a 'business matter', but when asked, refused to identify the client or nature of the debt they were seeking to recover (Baycorp are a debt collection agency). I asked how my name was associated with the debt, she refused to answer, saying she was only responsible for the 'initial verification process'. I asked whether the debt was associated with me by name, or by my address, but she refused to answer. I asked whether the debt was associated with a previous resident who I identified by name (knowing they are a debt collection target), but she refused to answer. I asked where she got my name and number, she advised they were contacting all people with my name, using details taken from 'a public database' (the phone book).
I said that since she was unable to give me any information, she was a stranger to me, so I would not be giving her any of my information. She asked me to call back on the above number (confirming it is only a local call charge), and quote reference number 2000_99xxx. I told her that, since she would not provide any information about the alleged debt, I would not be calling back, and hung up.
I suggest anyone receiving a similar call should do the same (especially if you have undischarged debts).

My mother in law has been harassed continually by an Indian caller saying they’re from Baycorp following up an optus debt for her son. They’re very confident and forceful and say as he owes a debt she needs to pay it and try to get her to give her credit card details over the phone or set up a ‘payment plan’
We’ve confirmed no debt or outstanding amounts for her son and also called Baycorp (via the correct number on their website) who have confirmed there are no accounts for him-total scam

1300 730 522 is now owned and used by the financial services company called Wizit. This number is listed on their website under Contact us. Not sure if they are related to Baycorp, however Wizit are legitimate, as I applied for an account with them on their app yesterday.
Hope this helps. Cheers

Has all the hallmarks of a Phishing scam. Overseas call, asks for private information, name, DOB, address etc.

Advise not returning or answering call.

Received a call asking me to phone 1200 730 522, giving a reference number. Knowing it's a scam I phoned anyway. Woman asked if I had a reference number. I told her my number shows up, she doesn't need the reference number. She said she needed the reference number. I said I couldn't understand the number left on my voicemail since she's not Australian. Reiterated she didn't know what it was about. I told her neither did I and to stop calling me (not that that will work lol). I don't have any overdue payments that would be with any debt collector.

Call from 'Private Number' which I declined. Indian male left a voicemail asking me to phone this number and providing a reference number. Given the previous comments, and the fact that I don't have any overdue debts, I won't waste my time returning the call.

Also received a letter through the post claiming to be from Baycorp with the above phone number on the letterhead stating that the letter is to verify that xxxxx amount was owed to them and payments arranged as agreed upon. This is also a scam and that number above has nothing to do with the real Baycorp company. Once again the operator had an Indian/Malaysian accent.

She wanted my name dob address. Said she is from Baycorp about a debt. (I do not have any debts so knew this is a scam). She said she is calling from Parramatta gave the number 1300 730 522. I said I would call the number but checked it out first, landed on this site. I have been receiving text messages from so called Baycorp for months now but never reply. Very forceful and confident so could easily fool people with this scam.

Yes I got a credit warning in the mail from Baycorp. Very suspicious as I do not owe anybody anything. Rather strange and the phone number is different to the one on the internet home page. After reading these comments, I am not going to call them as I know it is a scam and with the amount of people they are doing it to, then it adds up. Definitely phishing scam.

It most likely Baycorp. They cold call any person with the same name as a person whom actually owes money. They are eliminating people with the same name until they actually find the person they are looking for. Even if it is you that owes money tell them nothing as all insurance companies are thieves.

Received an email regarding debt. I tried to ring but since the supposed account was in my husbands name she would only talk to him. He rang and asked for information to be emailed. We have received an account but not with the current Baycorp logo on the letter head (could not find this logo online). Also the phone number at the top of the page & half way through the body of the letter are not related to Baycorp. One of these numbers is an old fax number for a Insurance Company. I have emailed abck and asked for more information and if it can not be provided I will refer to Local and Australian Federal Police.

Like the other comments an indian accented woman from "Baycorp" called today asking for details ie: Name and address. I declined and asked why she needed the information, she couldn't elaborate. She then gave this number to call but after checking here I will not be making the call. Feel really sorry for the innocents out there who are none the wiser of these 'scam artists'. Please tell everyone of this.

Indian lady left msg on my voicemail saying ni name or company name didnt identify who she was looking for and why. If was a real debt collection agency would think they can get access to finding where you live snd would post a letter in the mail with all the information regarding what they need from you. Having evidentiary credidentials with a signature from the CEO or executive manager or superviser with a date of issue and a return p.o. address. So unless its on paper in writing its viable!

Have been calling me for some time now well over a year, same thing as others they refuse to give any details about the matter. I have done debt checks against my self and I have no outstanding or unpaid debt owing. I too have told them I will not be giving any personal info to them, will not be calling any number they give me. stop calling me, and their answer to this is " well we will just keep calling you"
