Be warned!!!! Got a very strange phone call from this number also, she would not state her name. She stated she was from Westpac also and was asking for a tax status information. Did not give her any info and then she gave this number stating to call back. Very suss, this was definitely NOT WESTPAC and should not divulge any information to people calling from this number stated.

Recieved letter from my bank with this phone number and reply paid envelope. It is legit, asking about whether i have an overseas bank account. Rang and verified the number. Wespac and all their associated banks are sending out letter, emails, notifications on internet banking.Checked with my bank. It is a directive from the Government and ATO

I also received a msg repeatedly from this 1300 725 863 regarding "Westpac Access to your account is restricted until to update your foreign tax residency status & restriction will be removed"

I also received this call. I checked with the Westpac Branch and they said it is legitimate, and the ATO have asked the banks to collect information regarding Foreign Tax Residency. I called the number back and it was legitimate Westpac Staff, they ask security questions that are not giving out any personal information, felt completely safe and comfortable as they only request a yes or no answer.

When I called they asked me if I paid any international tax. I said no, and she said that she could update my status so that I wouldn’t get any scam threatening letters.
She asked me for my date of birth, and I said What details do you have about me?
She said she needed to update the file regarding their organisation with me.
I said, I’m not with you at all. Said goodbye and hung up!
The other weird thing was that when I couldn’t work out which button to press, the first time, after a few minutes a recording said, thanks for calling Westpac, sorry we couldn’t help you today using telephone banking.

I got a text from ‘StGeorge’ in 2017 stating my limit had been exceeded. They gave the actual st George number to call.
The sender only comes up as StGeorge, no number available as the where the text came from.
On 4/11/20 I got a text from the same number saying:
Please update your foreign tax residency status or your account may be restricted. Call 1300 725 863 or (02) 9845 4749 intl. Search 'foreign tax' on our website for more information. No reply SMS.
Then the same exact text message today. This number within the message. I did not call. I don’t have an account with St George.

Got a text message claiming Westpac asking for payment of overseas tax

it is a compulsory requirement by au tax office if you have a foreign income eg pension
takes 5 mins at Westpac branch to sort out

I Got a letter regarding Foreign Tax Residency from Westpac at my home address with return envelope and a form to fill out . Then I received a message to urge me to reply the letter and fill the form to return it. I called my bank 132032 and the staffs said I can ignore it.

This is a scam, claim to be from NCML and won't give name or any details, but aggressively demand personal details and use scare tactics, i.e. if you don't provide personal details further action will be taken. Don't fall for their aggressive approach or threats. If they won't even explain what NCML stands for then hang up. Call is from a private number, but then provide 1300 725 036 is the number to contact, along with a reference number in their email. Hang up is all I can advise. Read the many notes about their modus operandi. They are now targeting the vulnerable people under financial hardship through COVID-19. BEWARE!!!!!!!!

Number is genuine, but someone has opened an Account in my name. An even bigger concern!

Got a letter from Westpac at my home address with a form to fill out. This number was on the cover letter. I called this number after confirming it on the westpac website. The guy only asked the reference number on the form, my name, which was already on the form, and my DOB. After providing that I had a bad feeling about it so called Westpac who confirmed this number was their Foreign Tax department. Probably OK, but should have gone through their main phone number.

Received a txt message from St George about updating our Foreign tax residency status..... I rang our St George using customer service number on the back of my cards.... it was confirmed as a legitimate message as a directive from the ATO.
If you are unsure about anything, always call the bank direct for verification. I would suggest not to use the numbers as sent in any correspondence.
This is relevant to the Westpac Group.
