Scam from the ATO

Definitely scammers. Said he was from ATO and my wife owed $963 for the 2016/17 Financial Year. Only problem is, is that we haven't done our 2016/17 tax returns yet.
If the ATO want money from you they will send you a bill in a letter, not ask for it over the phone.
The ATO aren't telemarketers.

Yeah, scam debt collectors pretending to be the tax office.
Just hang up on 'em.

They come up as a private number, I don't answer (been stung by a scammer) goes to voice mail, they leave no message, All there is is Dead air with what sounds like a call centre in the background.. I get at least 6 calls a day from this mob, who when asked by me say "I/we haven't called you ma'am" But want ALL my info to "bring up my account with AGL" I don't have an account with AGL!!

Not the ATO message for me - an automated message from 'Brad Wilson' representing 'my existing computer maintenance scheme' informing me that I owe $300. OK BRAD.

just came home to a message from this number asking fe my son whom hasn't lived with us here in VIC for 15 years the ladies??? name was either Depica or Tipica hard to understand her name she also gave a 11 digit reference number to quote

I didn't receive any calls from this number, but I received a letter which shows I have to call back. In the letter, there is only a title which is 'income tax', and no any relevant information that I owe the ATO.
However, recovery website has a different phone number as this. I doubt this is a scam.

Definitely a scam call from this company.

I was left a voicemail on my work phone on a Saturday morning to call 1300 131 296. I rang ATO report scam department to check that if they had try to contact me recently. The answer was no.

The number is for a debt collection firm - "recoveriescorp" and they do act for the ATO, but have no authority to correct a payment that the ATO has credited to the wrong account.
Will give an extension of time to enable you to fix everything yourself.
Claim to have no email or fax facilities to send confirmation about any discussion - very shonky.

Just leave number and reference but not where they are calling from. Would never call back anyone who doesn't have what it takes to say where they are from.

I have had the same voice mail twice claiming they are from the ATO. They tried to get my TaxFileNumber - I ended the call then and deleted the message.

They claim to the the ATO but then when you question them they say they are acting on behalf of the ATO and are actually RecoveriesCorp. The phone number they give out is different from the one listed for RecoveriesCorp http://www.recoveriescorp.com.au/Contact-Us.aspx

I and my accountant never received any correspondence from them. All very shonky indeed and the ATO should not engage them to represent them. Do not give out any info to the caller. Ask for a reference number and call the ATO. Sadly the ATO don't care about how shonky RecoveriesCorp act/are but at least you'll know if you actually owe anything. If so pay the ATO never RecoveriesCorp. Then put in a complaint to the ATO about their behaviour.
