Caller type: Debt collector
Location: Australia
Caller: An asian male

Claiming to be a representative of the Australian Tax Office (ATO).
Said I have an outstanding arrest warrant with the Australian Federal Police who will be arriving shortly to arrest me for outstanding Taxation payments. A debt of around $4,000
If I don't pay immediately, I will go to court and have to pay $97,000 or face five years imprisonment and confiscation of personal items as well as property.
He said he was in Canberra, but rang using a local Adelaide number.
Obvious discrepancy.

Caller: MOBILE CITI from Adelaide

I told them I'm on DO NOT CALL registry
I've had at least 10 calls in last 2 weeks from telemarketing - scammers - spammers - or charities ( fake ones too)
fed up to the back teeth with fraud & scammers
I would NEVER give to a phone called charity anyway - as most go to the caller & not the charity
THIS was trying to get me to switch phones -- Mobile Citi (Real company) need to fix this as scammers

NEVER EVER AGREE TO ANY CALLS - TAX OFFICE, PHONE Co. OR anyone else. JUST CHECK NUMBERS - BE ALSO CAREFUL OF ONLINE POP-UPS, STATING YOU ARE THE LUCKY PERSON WINNING ANYTHING - IT IS ALL CRAP AND B.S.
WHENEVER IN DOUBT, CHECK FIRST BY CALLING YOURSELF THE ORIGINAL PHONE COMPANY OR BANK ... AND ASK THEM. NO ATO, BANK, WILL CALL YOU DIRECT, THEY SEND YOU A LETTER FIRST, THEN STILL, YOU TAKE IT TO THE BANK AND ASK THEM IF IT IS AUTHENTIC - IDIOTS AND MORE IDIOTS ARE ABOUT TO CALL YOU. DO NOT GET SUCKED IN - OR FALL IN TRAPS. BEWARE. JUST HANG UP - OR TELL THEM TO GO TO HELL, OR KEEP YOUR PHONE, OR TELL THEM YOU ARE MONITORED AND WILL BE REPORTED. OR SIMPLY HANG UP.

Caller: They identified themselves as Mobile Citi (NOT the genuine Mobile City - I checked!)

Offering me a new latest model, Android or iPhone, mobile phone at my current contract rate per month, with my current provider and the same mobile phone number. BUT, AND HERE'S HOW THE SCAM WORKS - they intentionally order the WRONG phone (Android or iPhone) to be delivered to you and then, in a carefully timed follow up call, express surprise and ask you to send it back to a (BOGUS) warehouse address. They then disappear, along with the brand new phone, leaving you with a couple of thousand dollars of newly contracted debt to your mobile service provider, who only know that they (the mobile provider) sent you a new phone (which you signed a delivery receipt for) and as far as they're concerned - you still have! So BEWARE !!!!!!!!

I see most comments refer to ATO. Had an automated call the day before. (02) 6404 4787.
claiming to be the tax office and threatening arrest. Today's call was a the (08) 8121 4108 number with direct voice of Asian accent. Asked if she could speak English as I had no idea what she was on about. After 3 go's she hung up. Looks like the two numbers may be linked.
