I have now found every number beginning with 04888 that I have received approx 8 calls ending in 5 random numbers that appear to be dud calls. I have picked up the landline phone, not said anything, and then disconnection from the source. In my experience these calls are a computer randomly calling and hang up after silence on the line.
Blocking calls using Uniden phones
I have blocked all calls beginning with 04888 by adding 5 '#' symbols to the end of the number. ie 04888#####. This blocks all calls beginning with 04888 and ending with any number between 00000 to 99999. I now have no nuisance calls. Please Note - If you have a contact with a number between 0488 800 000 and 0488 899 999 then you will not be able to receive the call on your landline phone.
If the contact is important, and you do want to receive calls from them, ring them up and let them know that you cannot receive calls from that number on your landline. They will have to use another number or your mobile number to contact you.

Have had so many calls from variations of the same number. Often I would answer and say nothing and then they just hang up. Today I answered and they knew my full name. Spoke about being from an Australian Government Super Review and because of mandatory policy changes I am entitled to a review of my super provider. Asked my age bracket, if I am working full time and number of years of work in Australia. Said someone will call me tomorrow to discuss my super and I requested to opt out and one to call me... we shall see if they adhere to it.
