Caller: Received Text from Paypal Thought it was a scam at first, asking me to log into my PayPal account for additional information. But there was no link, so I assumed it might be legit. Logged into my Palpal account on a different device and under notifications, there was a request for additional information. Everyone here is reporting it as a scam, but how can it be when there's no link for you to log in to? If there was a link, then of course, be suspicious. People are getting a little too paranoid.

I logged into my PayPal account after receiving the sms from this number and confirmed that the sms (re an coming payment) was legitimate, but that's not to say that many here may have received an sms from this number that has been maliciously spoofed. Best not to respond and to check your account to determine the legitimacy of the sms.

Got a call from this number today. It's an obvious scam. Wanna know how I know? Because texts sent to your number from PayPay have the name 'PayPal' as the sender, not some shady unrecognised number. That's how things work when you know enough about security to set up 2FA on your account.
People saying "HURR DURR IT'S LEGIT", you're gonna end up being the folks who give all their superannuation away to a 419 scam. Get smarter and learn how things work.

Caller: Paypal Got a text advising a security code.
Logged into Paypal to update password and then got a text from their two step verification and it also came from this number.
I assume someone has tried to log into my account or scammers are spoofing the number, which would account for some being real and some being fake from the same number.

Caller: Text message Asking to confirm PayPal purchase. Reply Y, N immediately after payment. Replied Y There was a quick reply stating the payment is authorising. (Seems) genuine but odd. Paypal has never done this before.

Caller: Smishing / Phishing scammer RE: Paypal “Money Request”; under the guise of bogus ‘bitcoin purchase’.
Summary: 1. Two step scam: Phishing ‘PayPal money request’ followed by Smishing SMS from the scammer • 1st: Scam via my PayPal account (using my privacy breach leaked email) • 2nd: SMS smishing txt from scammer
Scammer info: 1. Landline offered (by scammer): (03) 9013 7501 (i.e. phishing) - note: DON’T call this number, you will be speaking with the scammers!! [Seller ‘fake’ info on PayPal shows as: name=Yvonne Head, email=kevbrere @ optunet.com.au Note: this info is fake, don’t both trying to email them. You could be disclosing information they need, assuming it doesn’t bounce back]
2. SMS mobile (by scammer): 0485 872 975, this SMS following the ‘money request’, on the same day (i.e. smishing) - note: DON’T reply or click on any hyperlink!!
My action: 1. Email from PayPal alerting me to the ‘money request’ was legitimate. I logged into my PayPal account and ‘reported/declined’ the visible money request from a scammer. 2. Reported phone numbers to ACMA txt reporting 3. Added both landline (per PayPal “Seller notes”) and mobile (smishing txt w/ hyperlink) here @ Reverse Australia 4. SMS; clicked on ‘report message’ offered via iOS ‘iMessage’
5. Time to create a ‘PayPal’ only email address used exclusively for PayPal purchases, since my multiple personal email(s) are compromised by corporate company privacy breach. These private email addresses will now be forever targeted by scammers!!

Caller: Apparently PayPal They almost got me.I went along with it until I realised the information I was about to give would grant access to my account. Well done, really. But do not think it's legitimate just because there isn't a link to click on. That isn't the only way to fall prey to scams.

Not Legit, you should not receive numbers from this scam phone number and think they are legit. Most people receiving them don’t have PayPal accounts so they are just hoping someone responds, derr.
