A definite attempt at fraud - the message was sent twice (2 minutes apart) & reads “Hi mum, I have received my new phone! Can you save this number and send me a message on whatsapp?”

This is a scammer, posing as your child, who has lost and replaced their phone, and therefore doesn't have access to the phone banking or accounts. They will ask you to transfer to BSB 063-097 Acct 7566 0413 Name: R. Gony Ref. PAY11. They asked me for $4930.11

Started out saying "Hi, I'm Kevin. I just came here from Los Angeles. Nice to meet you."
"I'm Aunt Jenny's nephew. She gave me your phone number. I just came to Australia from Los Angeles for work"

Nice try with the Anglo relative names, no bueno. 😂

Initially thought it was someone who needs help but after checking online, seems like it is a scam......The scammer seems to change his/her tac-tic a bit comparing to the previous comment. The SMS was sent from the number 0432 654 756 with message stating:
"Hi mum I'm texting you off a friends phone I've smashed mine and their phones about to die can you message my new number on whatsApp 0482 090 179"

I see the ‘Hi mum save the number, what’s app’ seems to be circulating again judging from the previous comments below. I suggest Block the number before deleting the message.

I received a message today from the same scammer saying hi mum, I have received my new phone! Can you save this number and send me a message on whatsapp?
