Msg said hi mum I’m testing my new phone can you save my number. Tried calling back long ring tone obviously not Australian. SCAM…. SCAM… BEWARE

Scammed as above 11.9.22.
I don't understand how this has been happening for 4 weeks and the telecommunication people have not stopped the number being used.

The message is to "mum" saying they'd dropped their phone into the toilet and gave this temporary number along with request for money for bills to pay and a new phone.

I received a text supposedly from my daughter who said her phone was broken and her “new” number is 0482 073 989 . She said she was having a terrible day as she’d lost files sent to the Cloud. Next text asked if I could pay a bill for her and she would repay
me “ when she registers her new number with her bank.” Send money to……
SUN REDDY KONTHAM. 063159. 10718456. Very believable texts! No money paid.
I’ve searched (and notified )the BSB and it’s Commonwealth Bank, Oakleigh, Victoria.
