Text message, supposedly from Apple advising that my Apple ID had been locked for "security reasons" and a hyperlink to confirm A/C details.

Suncorp bank your internet banking has been suspended due to suspicious Citi it you on your account visit the link to verify your identity this is a scam

Same message as above.

Why can't telecommunication industry stop numbers like this one from abusing it?

Caller: Apple ID phishing scammer

Recieved a text stating "Your Apple ID has been locked for security reasons. Please login to verify your identity."
The link goes to what I assume is a phishing website, url is appleuserverify (com). Do not go to it unless you know what you're doing.
