This came as a text to voice message on my landline, saying there is a planned outage tomorrow. I contacted Ausnet to confirm and this was genuine. They use that number to contact their customers.

That makes sense. I'm registered with Randstad & recently applied for a job through them. Today I got an SMS giving me details about a job and to reply "Yes" if I was interested, then someone would be in touch. Thanks for that, I've noted the landline and will call it tomorrow.

I got a message saying : DBM Consultants, a research firm will contact you for a study about Australian companies. It is not for sales or marketing. Your number was randomly generated.

I got SMS from this number about an Admin/Service Coordinator role based in South Melbourne. It also has an email address & land line number that belongs to Randstad in Melbourne. When I contacted the mobile number I got "This number is disconnected" But the land line is correct.(03) 8319 1153, and the name Harpreet Singh is correct too.
When I checked that name on LinkedIn, it belongs to an Indian male who has 4 different profiles none of them belongs to Randstad. However, when I contacted the land line it belongs to Randstad Melbourne, and Harpreet, is a female consultant who is working in Randstad and based in Melbourne, and she told me that the SMS comes out of a system generated by that mobile number, therefore, it's not reachable. I would just recommend anyone gets such message to either contact the land line above if he/she is interested in a job with Randstad in Melbourne, else just reply back "STOP" to opt out as directed in the SMS itself. Thank

I got an SMS said I have a pathology bill is overdue like Rachel (the other person who also commented here)did. I almost believe it too because I do have a pathology bill but I paid already on the day I went to the pathology clinic and I had to double check with my bank account record. I don’t know if this is some system error or scam due to personal information being leaked to scam but just be careful people!!!

I am not phoning this number to find out. To me one phone number should be directed to one company not all of the above or below my comment. Because it is so varied, its got to be a scam. Anyone foolish enough to be hooked into this, may also be ripped off. And considering 8 millions dollars has been lost from peoples accounts in 2018, it makes you wonder where common sense prevails. If you don't know the number at all, don't bother with it, block it. Do not get caught and become one of the causalities.

Received the following SMS:

"DBM Consultants, a research firm will contact you for a study about Australian companies. It is not for sales or marketing. Your number was randomly generated."

What's the bet they need just a little personal identification information to assist their "survey"? Definitely suss.

Googling DBM Consultants turns up what looks like a legit market research firm but how would you know it is actually them?
