Perhaps we need to look at why the law basically doesn't exist since it is completely ignored by the people meant to enforce it when it happens online.
It's 2019 and the internet isn't that much of a mysterious novelty any more, and the pigs should be dealing with it properly.

Yep- we got scammed by Louisa Williams, should’ve done a check of her number first.. she claimed to live rural Melbourne and that’s why selling phone cheap as no one is buying in her area.. even claimed she was a teenager whose parents are “super worried she’ll be scammed” but I was the sucker..

My 15 year old daughter placed a wanted add on gumtree looking for an iPhone 8 Plus...Louisa contacted her saying she was a 19 year old from tweed heads who had one she wanted to sell
Wanted $450...but my daughter explained she was a student and could afford that so the price kept tumbling down to $170 for an excellent condition iPhone 8 Plus....hmmm.....my daughter asked for picks and some of the picks had SIM card installed others has no SIM card installed. Her hands didn’t look like a 19 year olds either....
She could prefer my daughter paid $100 deposit ....but she couldn’t provide photo I’d??

Posted a wanted ad on gumtree looking for a phone, got a message saying “Hey I saw your gumtree ad, I am selling my iPhone 7 Plus, it’s 256GB and in perfect condition, I’d be happy with $350 😊” I wouldn’t buy from this person seeing the comments left here

tried to scam me for a Nintendo switch but i managed reverse the payment via paypal

I was looking to buy an iPhone XS Max, was up for $800, seemed like a great deal.

I paid a $400 deposit, she made up crap about having to use these certain method, and then her boss wouldn't allow her to take transactions through that account, and showed me a fake screenshot saying she refunded it, so I sent another $400 to another acc. She provided a fake tracking number too.

I made a police report, she was sentenced and I was awarded restitution, however its been 6 months and I still don't have it.

Got a message from a 'Jackson Lee'. Said he wanted to purchase my ipad then asked for my account details and photo of my licence as their protection. Gave me an address in Perth for posting once payment went through. What a waste of my time. No payment came through and now blocked me when I tried calling to see if 'he' wanted the ipad.

Gumtree is an advertising venue for LOCAL, FACE-TO-FACE transactions. Read it in their terms; that's why they don't have any payment handling or tracking. If you want to buy something from someone you can't visit face-to-face to pick the item up (and pay cash for it at the time), look on eBay - otherwise you're just BEGGING to be exploited by con artists like this.

Also remember the axiom, IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT IS!

Scammed me of $225 - claimed when i transferred deposit of $75 that it went to a different account and that she sent it back. DO NOT trust this woman - i tried to buy a series 3 apple watch off of her and she seemed great and really trustworthy, but then scammed me $225. Please BEWARE of this lady !!! as a 19 year old casual (especially with corona) i don’t have that sort of money to spare, but i’d been wanting this for so long i decided to buy one and this happened !!!

I wish i knew about this website earlier. Got scammed by her on Sunday of $480. So frustrating. But lesson learnt for the first time.

She scammed me $270. Messaged me and said that she had an iPad for sale and I deposited money into her account and now she is saying that I scammed her

Posted a 'wanted' ad on gumtree asking for a 2nd hand phone as mine had broke. She said that she could post it to me if I did a deposit, then paid the other half when i recieved it. I asked for her address and she said "Mildura" I said I knew someone there that could pick it up and then she responded with "great" and never replied again.

Almost got scammed. PLEASE do yourself a favour and don't buy from them.

Scammed by Louisa Williams for me WTB on Gumtree ad, I was after two iphones for my kids for Christmas. I had other phones lined up which I then cancelled because she had better ones, or so she said and she had photos. Asked for a deposit which I stupidly borrowed to pay her, My ad stated I was on a pension and begged people to be reasonable. This person is cruel. I am contacting the police now.
