If you call them back and press 1 it gives you the options to remove your number from their call lists.
Takes about three days to get processed though.

I already told you who it is(Oceania Customer Interactive Services)and that they were given your details by Optus for telemarketing purposes.
I have written confirmation of this from Optus along with an apology for giving my details to a 3rd party without my permission...yes they actually admitted it in writing !
Go to the TIO website and make a complaint because Oceania not only has your name and phone number but also ALL details associated with your account...DOB, Address and if you ever gave Optus a driving license number or if you pay Optus by direct debit from a credit card then Oceania have access to that info as well !.
It's not just annoying phone calls you have to worry about...it is that so many of your personal details are available to Oceania and who knows what sort of people they have working there and who your info could be passed on to.
Why do you think it is so easy for anyone to get fake ID's created ...stolen or misused personal details are harvested and in some back alley way in India or Indonesia, someone is churning out fake identity documents...maybe with YOUR name on them !

Just received my first call from a lady who clearly came to this country on a floating piece of wood. She said she was from Optus Singtel and asked if I was happy with my new iPhone and my new $50 plan. She then asked if I retrieve voice mail and I said no. She then asked if I used mobile data for surfing the internet and I answered... "hang on, don't you have access to all of this sort of information" and the lady went silent and after about 5 seconds, she hung up on me.
So I called Optus to let them know that there are people calling their customers and misrepresenting them. The brilliant customer service lady on the other end obviously could not grasp what I was trying to explain to her and actually apologised for the person hanging up on me. WHAT IS OPTUS DOING THESE DAYS??? Obviously selling our personal details for profit and not spending those profits on competent costomer service representatives.

This number is OCIS: www.ocis.com.au

It's a huuuuuuge (and quite legitimate) call centre that does lots of outsourced work for many big companies.

This particular phone number is linked to outbound calls they make on behalf of Optus (and Optus alone).

They have your phone number because you have an Optus account (no other reason, pure and simple).

If you call Optus' main number, most of the regular customer service staff probably have no idea that OCIS even exists. Which is reasonable, since this is an third party outbound contact centre (not some dude sitting in the next cubicle). The outbound campaign probably falls under Optus' marketing or administration divisions, which are again separate to normal inbound customer service.

OCIS could be calling you for any number of reasons relating to your Optus account. But its most likely a sales call, or a customer satisfaction survey, or something much less critical than an overdue bill.

I started getting these missed calls after I recently updated my billing address with Optus' automated service earlier this month. As of this month I am also exactly 12mths into my 24mth contract. So I presume they were either trying to confirm my new address or upgrade my phone/plan.

I kept missing their calls (I work in an inbound call centre), but when I called back I was given that opt-out message others described here. This was the only option available on the recorded message.

I pressed 1 then # as requested to have my number removed from their list.

Knowing how these kind of outbound phone systems work, 3 days seems a reasonable timeframe to have my number removed from their system.

So I got a call from (03) 9982 8878, actually I've been getting them almost on a daily basis. I am usually at work and I keep my phone in the drawer so when im in my break I usually see this number as a missed call.

Looked this number up, landed here.

I shall continue to ignore this as it seems :)

I received and picked up a call from this number, first time I had seen the number before. Lady (with an accent) said that she was from Optus, and knew my mobile plan details, and that I had used voicemail frequently. She offered to me "for being a valued optus customer," a free 30 day trial for the Optus voicemail to text service. I listened in to this, it sounded legit, but ended up declining the offer because I couldn't be bothered calling up after the 30 days to cancel the trial. After sounded a bit disappointed, she then proceeded to offer me free 2GB worth of storage on Optus Smart Safe, again for being a "valued Optus customer", which I accepted. In the process of all of these, she asked me to provide a few details to confirm my identity, including DOB and address. After reading the posts on this site, I did panic a bit because I had provided these details to her. Today I got a text message from Optus advising me that I had signed up to the Optus Smart Safe free plan. After looking up on the internet, I found that you could get 2GB free anyway (you don't need some special offer from Optus). I'm in mixed views about all of this, it seemed to be legit Optus because they knew my mobile plan details (and asked if everything was okay with it), but also it could've been a scam to get my personal details (they could've just signed me up to Optus Smart Safe using those details). Arrghh shouldn't have picked up, I feel so dumb now!!

They rang my 'second' [my partner's] Optus moblie phone repeatedly. They always asked for me. They would not deal with anyone else - OK by Privacy Act obligations. They said they were Optus when I took the mobile myself so as to reply. I asked why they were not calling my Optus Primary Service number so as to speak to me, and why were they ignoring their being politely told repeatedly that the 'second' number they were calling was not my mobile number. They evidently have a thankless task for Optus, where they are NOT GIVEN SUFFICIENT RELEVANT CUSTOMER DATA to enable them to do their 'contracted' job of trying to sell me EXTRA Optus services. Selling such services when they do NOT HAVE FROM OPTUS NECESSARY MARKETING/ACCOUNT DATA which would tell them that I wouldn't buy their offered 'upgrades' in a blue-moon month [LOL - which this August actually is !]. Thanks to this website's advice, I have now OPTED-OUT : call back, option_1 and Hash ..., all automated. Don't blame the poor cold-calling operator you speak to; they are trying to earn a crust, and given the bad OPTUS's customer information they are given, don't be peeved when they try to sell you 'features' that you do not need !! Keep smiling !!

I received a call from this number just moments ago. I wish I had realised that it wasn't a legitimate Optus call as I answered all their questions. It seemed like a legitimate call just analysing the quality of their service. I hope they can't use any of the information they collected in any sort of hacking form. But they did have my address, Optus plan and the mobile I use. They only asked things like if I make international calls and use mobile internet. The only things they could use is what they already have from me. This is not cool, Optus! Fix this!

I am experiencing similar calls on my mobile, which unfortunately also with optus.

I think I am going back to pigeons because they can't give away my details.

Oceania are doing outsourced marketing for Optus...that was confirmed by Optus today.
Optus have not just given Oceania your phone number but also ALL the details about you that are connected to your account..that includes name, address, email, dob, direct payment account details etc...Optus admitted this to me today.
Ring Optus and tell them you are not happy about htese details being passed onto a 3rd party without your express consent and also make a complaint to the Telecommunications Ombusman.

I called Optus about this number. They said it is a third-party company called Oceania Customer Interaction Service that are hired on to perform marketing activities on their behalf. They are an actual business, not a scam. Doesn't make the constant calling any less annoying though.

Had exactly the same experience as "Julie" (above) with "Oceania". However, I am unsure how to remove my number from their calling list. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
