this number said they were optus chasing money for an overdue bill... funny as i haven't been with optus in over 8 years and haven't lived in my apparent new address for over 5 years.... Scammer

On callback this was a fax number (or has been set to fax). Just call the number and stay on the line for several minutes or send blank pages. Yes you incur a small cost but there is an element of satisfaction. If enough people do that to this same number then they might realise that their useless operation is even more useless. Better still just report this number to scamwatch - if they are simply calling verifying your identity and doing nothing more they are potentially seeking to use that info for illegal purposes. Caller ID shows (03) 9923 6432 not overseas. If they have to change numbers good - just report every number they use. Just a suggestion

This number comes up as "Overseas" but the number (03) 9923 6432 always shows. There is never anyone on the line. Very annoying!
