One it's the ndss a government operated department, two it's to verify the number can handle SMS, three don't believe the crap people are saying on here they don't ask for banking details or credit card they are simply giving you your ndss number for discounted goods at a pharmacy of your choice otherwise you pay full price for the strips 100 plus as you can't get a concession without the ndss number, they don't ask you to buy anything as it's provided free of charge to anyone diagnosed with diabetes from the ndss

This number rang repeatedly. I didn’t recognize the number, so I didn’t answer it for quite a while, after several calls I answered and had some asshat trying to hard sell me membership to diabetes victoria. This was the first call I had after being diagnosed a week before with Type 1 diabetes. It was incredibly depressing to have a predatory organization trying to gauge me for money when I was already depressed about my diagnosis.
It really seems that rather than offering support these bastards see us as an atm or a vulnerable population to exploit. Bravo... great form.

Sorry. Even though it’s Diabetes Victoria; being diagnosed with a medical condition does not give this organisation the right to call me for a membership drive.
Thank god I hadn’t been diagnosed with cancer. It’s just tacky. And I regret signing up with the NDSS if they sell information for mailing lists.
And it’s irrelevant if it’s for a charity.

Decided to answer as they kept calling, nice girl just confirming I had my NDSS card, and telling me I can get information online on their website to help managing my diabetes. No request for payment, just a follow up call to remind you there are resources out there to help manage your diabetes. But on that note for people reading this, google Dr Jason Fung and read his book, cut down on carbs (like 30g a DAY max) DO NOT follow the advice of dieticians in this country, they will have you on insulin in 10 years and losing limbs not long after, REVERSE your diabetes NOW with a LOW CARB Diet.

After reading the reviews on this number I was a bit skeptical that it was legit. Turns out the number is legit. It was someone from Diabetes Victoria calling to confirm that I had received my NDSS card and that I was able to purchase discounted products. They never asked me to pay anything, just told me about how to access their services.

It is not for discounted goods at all, Everyone that has an NDSS card already gets discounted goods. The people calling are trying to sell vulnerable diabetics a dodgy membership for $52 a year that gets you a dodgy magazine, diet tips and a few vouchers to buy socks. It is a scam. At first they disguise everything by suggesting that you have to pay up to keep your NDSS membership. When you call them out on it they say no its a special membership, then they proceed to try to sell you a magazine and other crap. Government revenue raising using the NDSS. pathetic.

called back the number, was put on hold for 18 mins, When they answered they tried to say that I needed to pay an annual membership fee over the phone for an NDSS membership. When I said that nobody on NDSS has to pay for that she then said that it was a special membership for $52 that get me a magazine and dieting tips or something. I told her to send me an email and she then said ..no we don't do it like that, only over the phone. Very fishy and scam like call. Could be the corrupt Australian government putting pressure on Diabetes Australia to scab money from vulnerable diabetics. Don't bother ringing this number back.

Ignore the person further above full of excuses.
It is a call asking for money. End of story. Diabetes Victoria pushing paid membership.
How tacky.
It is not NDSS giving out your number as everyone gets an email advice plus a letter with the card. And you would be more than aware of discounts when joining as that’s why you join….tadaaaaa.
I have had 4 calls over a month. I do not wish to be canvassed for membership. And they know charity calls are exempt from the door not call number. .

Yes is ndss to confirm details. They said because of the large number of calls they don’t have time to leave a message. This is what scammers do I said. Only takes two seconds to leave a short message

Rang. Didn’t leave message. Didn’t have answer. Reading other comments could be Diabetes related as I was diagnosed a few months ago.
Unlike one of the reviews don’t think they were ringing me up to give me a number for discounts I already have.
Again if they can’t have a message no matter what they are here for; I won’t answer.

I don't think it's Diabetes Victoria...it's a scam of some sort - fraudulent people posing as Diabetes Victoria.

As soon as I picked up the phone a lady asked me if I was with my husband. I said yes, why? She said can I hand the phone over to him. I asked why? She said because she needed to speak with him. I asked why. She said she can't tell me. I said why did you call me then? She said because your husband hasn't picked up his phone. (My husband's phone hasn't received any phone calls today...) I said well if you can't tell me why then I'm afraid I can't hand over the phone. Then she hung up. SUPER FISHY.

I too have been recently diagnosed and have received numerous phone calls. I have blocked this number! I'm sorry you are feeling so depressed. It's a terrible diagnosis and I have struggled getting my head around it too. I hope you have a good support system around you to help you through these hard days.

it appears that many of these websites who purport to give you facts about numbers are using peoples fear of scams..
the majority of these websites are no help at all but are saturated with double click ads.
