Had a call from an apparent Mike Dobson from Telstra Bigpond in South Yarra Victoria. For some reason he just sounded dodgy from the get go and sounded more like an Indian telemarketer. He rang to say that my grandfathers internet will be disconnected and it was a courtesy call to all customers were going to be affected by the loss of internet. Reason for the loss of internet was our IP addresses were being hacked. The guy even gave me an employee number of DE1312 and an office address of 58 Albert St, South Yarra. I told him to ring later so i could call the real Telstra and ask them if they recognised this number or address. Telstra confirmed that they did not know anything about this number or address and just to be aware that there are a few companies around using there name to scam people from files on their computer..wtf.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Telstra technical support. She said my internet was causing my computer to be slow and as my computer had been crashing frequently I though it was really Telstra. She directed me to open the run program app, type in "eventvwr" click on "custom views" and then "administrative events", which showed a great number of errors and warnings so I though she was from Telstra. She told me my computer was crashing because people were attempted to hack my computer. She then took me back to the "run program" app and directed me to type www.teamreview.com which opens up into a website to download remote access software. I ask if she was really from telstra she tells me her name is "Agnes Brown" from 68 (amd then 60) Albert Street South Yarra) she gave me her "telstra id: DE50527" and the number 90287396. She told me to call from my mobile which I did [this was to make me believe she was legit]. She told me not to hang up but I did and called the number from my mobile. The guy on the other end was not talking properly so I hung up and called Telstra. Telstra tells me that they have made not contact with me today. "Agnes" attempted to call two more times, I picked up on the second time and she was very cross, I told her that her game was over and I was contacting ScamWatch.

Thank you for posting this. Same thing happened to me this morning. It sounded like an Indian call centre - very noisy line with a huge rabble of voices in the background - just like the 'Microsoft Windows Scam'. I told him I couldn't understand him and I hung up. Then his 'supervisor' phoned me back and IDed himself as Mike Dawson DE1312 with a 'Telstra' phone number (03) 9028 7396 and an address of Albert St, Sth Yarra. I hung up and phoned TELSTRA. They said it wasn't a Telstra number and not to talk to this person and to report it to SCAMWATCH which I did. The scammer is very persistent. He has rung back or tried to ring me back several times today and I've stopped answering the phone but I check with STAR 10 HASH and the unanswered calls are from a private number. Bet they are overseas.
