A fake call scam

Major Fraud Squad is warning all West Australians about a phone scam that is currently doing the rounds in Perth. Members of the public are receiving calls supposedly from the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP), requesting them to call the Office back in relation to legal proceedings against them.

The calls suggest your home is under surveillance, and failure to respond will result in prosecution. Ultimately, the intention is to trick the call recipient into providing bank account details.

The calls are not from the CDPP or the Australian Tax Office, and government agencies will not ask for monetary deposits of any kind. We remind people that if they receive these types of unsolicited calls from any person purporting to be from a State or Federal Government agency, obtain a name and reference number. Then call the agency from a number sourced from the correct web site.

Is this the taxation office or a fake call?

Got a call from Xavier King "badge number" 407861. Phone number was (02) 6169 1058. Claimed that I was being charged with tax evasion and that I was going to be fined $95k and my children put in foster care!

absolute scam four times called now not worth the worry

Have received two calls from this number so far. Found one on my answering machine when I got home from work last night and got another very early this morning. Obviously a fake as you can hear that the message has been edited together and doesn't address any particular person. Very annoying

Fake call - claim to be dept public prosecutions on behalf of tax office. Must call them back to avoid further penalties and blah blah blah - the usual bullsh*t

yeh i just got that call.... for someone who already freaks out having to take a phone call, that one was just creepy! i'm glad others have already complained, i can relax now -.-"

Obviously a scam but could cause alarm for some people when told they have an affidavit lodged against them by the Tax Office and that their house is under surveillance and to call back immediately. I wont be ringing back

Called me this am, i then spoke to the tax office, Scammers!!!!!!

Scammer threatening prosecution left this number to call back. Claimed to be from Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions acting for the ATO. Caller didn't identify herself, nor did she name the person she wished to speak with.

Obvious fraud attempt.

Yes definitely a fake. He introduced himself as Xavier King. watch out people. Very rude person. Do not give our details to them

Yep got the same automated call two days straight from this number. Fake..Have reported to other sites. If you get call from this number hang up.

I'm guessing Scam as I'm getting calls as well. Dude at first, now a lady. Never mention my name, have received no correspondence via mail from the Tax Office nor has my accountant.
