scam. have contacted the ATO and reported it as a scam and they mentioned this happens alot around tax time each year.

These calls are becoming too frequent.
FYI, just discovered there are a number of websites which can show you which carrier is hosting the phone number that calls you.
Then you can ring the carrier directly, and inform them that a number being used on their system is being used for fraudulent purposes. I did this with this particular number, and they took my details and will take that number down.
I have had at least another 6 other similar experiences over the last 12 months, reported with scamwatch online, and heard nothing !!

Stated that ATO had received a formal complaint about my fraudulent activities, caller threatened me with arrest; stated warrants already issued; and to expect prison sentence if I didn't return call. Male voice recording.

The caller has left a voice message with an automated voice. It claimed that the Australian Taxation Office is filing a tax fraud case under my name. They are investigating me and my family. They tried to reach me and did not hear from me. Therefore they decided the tax fraud was intentional and has filed a lawsuit. Same scammers called and left a message today claiming an ATD (yes, Australian Taxation Department). First wrong move there..... it's the ATO dummies.
Had a good laugh as they say there is a warrant for my arrest. Really.... WHO? no name given... could be for "The Boogie Man" for all i know.... and he doesn't live here.
Such a stupid scam at best.... as someone said... their IQ must be that of a small cardboard box..... ha ha ha.... everyone needs to listen to this message for a good laugh. think i might keep it so i can have a laugh next week.

Voice recorded message as you answer the call. They claim to be from Australian Federal Police and they advised me that a complaint was issued against my name for an Australian Taxation matter and that there was a warrent to arrest me. I was then urged to call this number and not to ignore. A man with indian accent asnwered the call and after giving him my full name he requsted my tax file number. It was at that stage that i started feeling suspicious so i asked him if he could send me an ato link on my mobile phone so i could follow the prompts and get this sorted. He was confused about this and he said he woyld have dont this in about an hour and then hung up on me. I googled this phone number straight away and it was reported as a serious scam. I contacted my local police station and they advised that i was about the 5th caller with this same complaint. They urged me to report this number to federal police which i also did and my service provider. Some of these people have been caught last year so it is just a matter of time again....please do not give this number any of your personal information and report it to fedetal police. Total scam

Disgusting that this scam has been going on for years, yet our government does nothing about it (not to mention all the other scams that are going around). Countless Australians losing money to criminals running such scams, yet the government continues to focus on Islamic terrorism and other invisible threats
