Every time, as soon as I answer they hang up without having said a word. Funny way of going about fund-raising, I would say.

But yes, when you call back that number you get a recorded message saying that as a not-for-profit fund-raising outfit they are exempt from the do-not-call register.

Sounds like a load of codswallop to me. How do they hope to raise funds if they hang up as soon as you answer their calls, eh?

More likely, a bunch of crooks checking if there's anyone home and the way is clear for a burglary.

I got a call from that number today 29 July 2011 at 2:09 pm. They hung up as soon as I answered. I called back, got a recorded message asking me to leave my name and number.A charity, uh? More like a scam disguising itself as a charity, a network of burglars checking if there is anyone home.

Yes - a call from (03) 9016 0057 at 6:48PM was answered by another household member -- the unidentified caller asked for me by name.

They were told "yes, just one moment . . .".

When the phone was handed to me the call had either been disconnected or the caller had hung up.
