This number was used by a scammer to call me back. I initially called 1-800-577-514 because I understood it to be the number to speak to a Canon technician but in fact, it was the number for this same hacker. It's a lengthy story as to why I had to call a technician and the harassment I was put through by this scammer so I won't go into it now. Just beware, this number (03) 9005 8177 is the number of a scammer. It cost me $250.

This number was used by Charlie Denson and Ted Morgan. I initially called 131 383 and 1800 807 793 because I understood it to be the number to speak to the Canon Printer Support Team about my Canon Printer not working but I have since found out that this number is a scam. I was looking for suport from Canon to fix a problem with my printer. They ended up having full remote access to my computer. In the end though, printer problem was fixed. Just beware, this number (03) 9005 8177 is the number of a scammer. It cost me $299.99. Supposedly it was Canon support in Melbourne who gave me the return call number (03) 9005 8177 and then proceeded to offer to fix problems with my computer which included Norton security. Ted Morgan then spent an hour remotely accessing my computer. In the end the printer problem was fixed but it cost me $299.99AUD.

Exactly the same as all the above re Canon etc, for new printer problem including remote accessing laptop and rooting around and moving changing and deleting things as I watched the cursor whip around the screen and trying to get credit card details and accessing my PayPal account. Even after I slammed the phone down, trying to get rid of him, he was still in my computer doing things until i turned it off. Half the desktop icons have disappeared and all my favourites. Ruthless and unscrupulous. Arguably in breach of at least Trade Practices Act . Possibly also theft as in permanently depriving me of information. Why is Canon allowing this?

Jan, lets hope that during his 6 hours access to your computer he didn't copy your banking and password details or install a keyboard logger or malware. If I was you, I'd contact the ACSC, the Australian Cyber Security Centre.

Same as David above. I had lost patience waiting for Canon to get back to me with an email fix for my Canon printer not printing and decided to call them instead. I think I used ij/start/canon and it offered the same 1800 number as David above. I made this call, and spoke to "Charlie Denson" in "Melbourne, Canon support" who gave me return number (03) 9005 8177 and then proceeded to offer to fix problem for (amt quoted in USD) which equated to $295.00 AUD "and that includes Norton security." He then spent at least 6 hours (after saying he would spend 30 min) trying to fix the problem, and had full remote access to my computer. In the end though, printer problem was fixed. I then refused to pay for Norton security as I didn't need it..so price reduced to $220.00 which I paid! So at least I did not upload that!
However, I too have obviously been scammed, as Canon tech came back and said they never do remote control fixes.

OMG I just paid $500 for computer protection when I spoke with a tech from Canon to set up my printer when I called 1800 577 514. I now feel I've been scammed.

Scammed my grandmother out of $499. Called canon support for a printer issue on 1800 577 514. Was called back on (03) 9005 8177.
Remote accessed her laptop, created a PayPal and downloaded Network Security.
