I have my mobile phone for emergencies only. I hate it when I get unsolicited calls. The Olivia Newton John foundation is going on my personal "do not donate" list.

these bastards (who are a profit making business - not a charity) are still up to their same old nuisance begging calls. next time i'll try blatant sexual filth directly aimed at the female operator and hopefully they wont allow their staff to be heavily sexually abused and leave me alone.

am getting pissed of really with phone calls and the ignorant so and so's hang up when you pick up.How do you block these calls?????? How would they like it if shoe on other foot???????

Received a call from this number today saying they were 'Austin Health' wanting me to buy raffle tickets for Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre

Oh my god! This number keeps calling me in the last few day I have received over 10 missed calls! And im getting really annoyed. And it happens white I'm at work! Grr

I've had this number call me too!! That's why I am here!

For me, I had a person come to my property, in relation to some work that was done, and he threatened me with violence, so I orderered him from my property.

I later heard rumours, that when he does work for you, things tend to go missing - one person I spoke to, after I mentioned the problem, said that they had been broken into, multiple times.

A few days after this, my phone would ring, and no message was left on my answering machine, over and over again.

(Sound familiar...)

I am a shift worker, and do a 12 hour shift, and live on a property, with open sheds, and machinery, like tractors, rotary hoes, etc.

It sounds like someone was casing the place, to steal my stuff, or break in, or go pchyco-billy on me, and burn my house down!
Probably him!

So, I spoke to a friend about it, and he used to work for Telstra, and he told me to get in touch with my telephone company, and register a "Nuisance Caller/Harrassement complaint", and the phone company MUST follow it up BY LAW, and place a trace on your line, to find out who they are.

I have done this!!

It helps if you pick up the phone before the answering machine hangs up, as it then keeps the line open, and they can trace it (seems antique to me, but... Wouldv'e thought that wasn't necessary anymore!). They want about 5 - 10 minutes, to assist in the trace, and I have recently gotten them for two half stints since it became active a few days ago.

I also put caller ID on (didn't have it before then), at the same time, and so I found out the number, did a search, and ended up here!!

I suggest, that EVERYONE that is being harassed by these ******* lowlife's do the same thing, and register a complaint with their telephone company too!!
They'll end up being a RASH across all the phone companies, and will be reported to the police for investigation - should cause quite a stir...

AND, for those of you who couldn't be bothered doing this, or have no love of police involvement, you can just pick up the phone, and leave it off the hook for as long as is convenient, as this blocks their line, and they cannot make any further phone calls from this phone line, and holds it up, preventing them from harassing anyone else for as long as the line is engaged, and connected to YOUR PHONE!!

Now, they may, or may not be, working for the "Olivier Newton John Foundation" - but they are, if they are, almost certainly WORKING for her charity, as an official TELEMARKETING company, and either being PAID for that service, OR they are being paid a COMMISSION, as a percentage of the donation, like UNHCR, Red Cross, or RSPCA does - sometimes as much as 85% of the donation you give to a "charitable organisation", goes to the collector, and the organisation in control of the collectors - quite often all of these people are ONLY there, to earn an income.

This TELEMARKETING company, is conducting a BUSINESS, for the purpose of PROFIT, and are hiding BEHIND a charitable organisation, to get away with this sh*t, that a regular business, would be charged, and prosetuted for!

That is, asuming that they are not simply lying through their teeth!!

I learnt this, from a friend that applied for a "sales" job, who ended up doing donation collections, for Medecine Sans Frontier (Doctors Without Borders) - and learnt this from the Australian President personally, who was horrified at how little of the actual donations, get to the intended victims, or recipients - usually less than 8%, and in some cases, as little as 2%.
Medecine Sans Frontier, uses almost all volounteers, and limits all overheads, to a total of 15% of the donations, which includes airfares for the donated Doctors, and Nurses transport to the necessary patients - the Doctors and Nurses donate their time for fREE. This also covers transport for the medical equipment, purchase of medical equipment, drugs, and disposables (gloves, dressings, etc).

So if they can do all that, with 15%, where does all the money go, with these other charities??

I understand that collecting donations can be tough, but I doubt that many people donating money in the street, realise that very little gets to the people in need!!

This sounds like one of those companies that is responsible, for those practices, and has the ethics to back that up (AHEM!!) <sarcasm>

They are in this for PROFIT!!

I doubt, VERY MUCH, whether Oliver Newton John, and possibly the Foundation, either KNOWS, or CONDONES, this behaviour!!

SHE NEEDS TO KNOW - this is HER reputation too!! If someone here knows her, or someone who can contact HER directly about this, I think SHE would be appalled, and FIX IT!!
I think she deserves the chance, to do that - don't you??

Be aware, that the MARKETING COMPANY, may well control the Foundations phone number, email, and fax, as they are the marketing arm, and have been sub-contracted to do this - they may even control the reception, at the Foundations headquarters. They are in charge of fundraising - and they have gone FERREL!!

They need to be put down, like the RABID DOG they are!!


AND YOU CAN HELP!!

Register that Nuisance/Harrasment complaint - and DO NOT HANG UP, for as long as you reasonably can, so that this phone line (probably a PABX system, with hundreds of outgoing lines) will be UNAVAILABLE for making the VERY calls, that are HARASSING YOU!!

Why bother calling if there is no one there?

The people calling from this number on behalf of the Olivia Newton-John charity are pests. I bought a raffle ticket for this charity from a friend. I put my phone number on the ticket stub so they could contact me if I won. I did NOT give my consent for my number to be used for telemarketing purposes - which is what they did. I have a silent number, I'm on the Do Not Call register, and would NEVER consent to being on the receiving end of telemarketing, not even from a charity.

I told the caller that if they intended harvesting the information on the raffle ticket stubs for telemarketing purposes, the honest way to go about it would have been to say so plainly on the tickets, and allow the purchaser to opt in or out. Not to do so is at the very least unethical, in my opinion. Also, I wonder if it is a breach of Section 1.3(c) of the National Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act (1988)? If a lawyer familiar with the Act is reading this, I hope s/he will comment.

I asked the telemarketer whether they consult the Do Not Call register before phoning, and avoid calling numbers that are on it. Her answer: "no, we don't; we're a charity so we don't have to." Legally she may be correct, but in terms of public relations, what an unbelievably arrogant response! She then became defensive and implied I was being unreasonable: "we ring lots of other people using phone numbers we've collected in the same way, and they don't mind!"

People who go to the trouble of putting their names and numbers on the register are people who don't like telemarketing. Therefore, if you are telemarketing for charity and you ignore the register and ring a number that's on it, it's very likely that the person who answers is going to be annoyed! And if they get annoyed, they're not going to support your charity.

I will NEVER AGAIN buy a raffle ticket for the Olivia Newton-John Foundation. I will NEVER make a donation to it. And I will encourage everyone I know to do the same while the ONJ Foundation continues this method of fundraising. Even if their practices are within the bounds of the law, harvesting phone numbers like this without the consent of ticket purchasers and then using them for telemarketing is in my opinion unethical and inconsiderate, and their attitude when challenged is breathtakingly arrogant.

They ring my parents house phone then my mobile almost daily! Is this a legitimate company or what? We have never answered this number nor will we, and I will be blocking them from calling at all!

I had a male call me saying he was reading from an old ticket book i must have bought for a cancer raffle. He said my name wrong asked for my first name and then said he would like to send out a raffle book. For me to sell for the cancer cause. I'm a new mum and only after the call thought he could have been anyone. Me being tired i gave him my details. The number came up as 03 841-45608 no calls since but still waiting for the book.

Do not now answer unknown callers like this but wait to see if a voice message is left. No meesage. No call back. No hassle. Cheers

I had one this evening, did not answer, luckily my Uniden cordless phone let me store it in phone book with ringer option, so I chose 'off' if the wretched thing calls again the phone will light up but not make a sound. I have made monthly donations to UNHCR for 8yrs, nothing against Olivia <3
