This crud should be illegal. The idiot carriers or service providers running this should be sued.

I've just received a call from this number - I didn't answer and they have left a message with an absolutely disgusting tone of voice. On call back and the phone was answered with a 'hello?'... I advised that i had just received a call, I was asked what my name was at which point I returned with an 'i'm sorry but who are you and where are you calling from?' without giving any of my details. I was rudely given the persons name, no business name, and advised that they are a web design company to which I hung up.

I have only registered with Adobe, Instagram, later.com and productreview.com.au recently - none of the above listed sites. It seems these businesses are selling information without expressed consent, which is otherwise illegal unless it's listed in some kind of small print somewhere.

I've been looking into this because after I registered a domain I got totally swamped in less than an hour, it was my first ever domain. I went back and changed my phone and email details to something obviously fake and the calls mostly stopped. Anyway it does seem that GoDaddy and Crazy Domain did NOT sell my details to these sludge, I also believed they did but long story short, they didn't. It's called scraping. Do a whois lookup of your own domain and you will soon find the details they are using. I've spoken to experts in the domain field and there are easy ways to immediately find who just registered a new domain, in fact there are websites where anyone can just go anytime for free and see the new ones as soon as they're live, check it yourself.
The other thing is, how does some Indian/Asian or other call centre convince themselves that here in Aust. we'd contract them to make a website? I tried telling the first few, no thanks I make my own sites I'd never pay for that service and if I did it would be to a local business I can deal with in person, never some stranger on a connection from overseas whom I never met. They take no notice - they just see, phone number, owns a domain, call 'em. I guess someone out there DOES say yes to them sometimes. Also, even if nobody ever contracts a site they can learn a bit (worth selling) just by calling and speaking to you.
I also wonder, do they actually have a verifiable history of building real sites? And if you do a whois on that site and contact the owner, I wonder if they would confirm this call centre's story. Seems a fishy way to try and drum up business. Maybe they think people will pay for "personal" sites... I bet they're just whipping them up with wordpress or quick, free templates and trying to charge thousands.
If the number you list is a mobile try downloading an app to block numbers. Frankly I'm amazed they even call from an actual number, it's always been private in my experience. The call centre is clearly overseas, yet up comes an Australian number. So they must be SPOOFING the number (making a fake one come up), is that legal? This smells fishy to me for those reasons. I'd like to use a disposable number and bait them to see what I can find out about them, then block their calls.

The money paid to Go Daddy is used by its owner to go to Africa and kill endangered animals. Big game hunter, big time scum.

When I answer my mobile I expect someone to be at the other end, instead, you wait 5-7 seconds for someone clearly in an Indian call centre to come on and ask how I am???! So annoying!
