Said they were from Australian Bureau of Statistics. After a couple of questions said I qualified for "free" information shut down call saying would report for misleading and deceptive conduct. Clearly some form of scam.

INDIAN SCAM calls based on decade old personal info sold in the black market

Heavy indian accent, first caller claimed she was from Australian Bureau of Statistics and they do a survey every 5 years. I just gave her all the wrong answers about my personal info as I know any legit company or aus govt would never just call and ask for any sort of info!
Another day second caller called and started asking the same questions. I just wasted their time again. Regardless, they kept calling me every hour from 9am to 7pm for the next 1 week.

I know for a fact that 10yr my old address is still circulating in the black market. They have that address, not my current one... surprise surprise!!

LOVE IT - i sometimes 'play' with them by offering silly answers if i am, say, standing at the stove for 20 minutes stirring a risotto and feeling feisty. i have never considered 18 children though - definitely will use this!!

Number called me on my mobile, (female caller, sounded like an Indian accent) claimed to be "Employee Benefit Services". The alarming thing was, they appeared to know I worked in "Aviation Transport Industry" and my wife in "Education", which is accurate. So they are getting personal data from somewhere. I asked how they knew this information. Claimed I had answered a survey on <indistinct>. However they then said I lived at a NSW postcode which I have not lived in for over a decade.

Then I challenged caller: what is the name of your company and what is its website? Caller said "pardon?" and I repeated my question. Caller then hung up.

A heavy Asian accent female voice rang asking to confirm my address to send out financial advice information that my husband had requested. I was preoccupied at the time and thinking my husband may have requested information. I confirmed everything with a yes. Derrrrrrrrr I had not heard of the "Yes scammers" using your voice to use your identity. Now I am really worried. I have contacted my financial Institutes and blocked all usage but I am worried about other identity fraud also.

My friend and I were Skype calling and my friend got a call. This guy with a heavy Australian accent started yelling down the phone saying "STOP USING MY WIFI, I PAY GOOD MONEY FOR MY WIFI GET YOUR OWN". The problem was, he was in Melbourne, we don't even live in Melbourne. He kept talking and my friend kept just answering 'ok'. This guy is insane but judging by the comments I've seen it might be a scam to see where people live but who knows. If he calls you tell him your Russian and can't understand english.

One call from this dude who called me 'mate', wanted to do a 10 second survey. He got angry when I asked him what he was calling for and then I hung up. He tried calling me three more times but I didn't respond.

I've got a number of calls on my work phone. I did not answer (after reading this site) and they did not leave a message. I once curiously answered and it was an Indian woman's voice with very noise background. I told them I was busy and asked their number to call back. They refused insisted to call me again instead. I just said "don't worry" and hang up. What I'm going to do next time is to give them ACMA's number or police station's number and tell them to call that number as I am not convenient to use the work phone other than work.

Heavy accent. Asked what industry I worked in, what industry my partner works in, whether I had a mortgage. Said he was calling from Australian Bureau of Statistics. Asked what my name was, I said I was uncomfortable providing that information. Asked my partner's name, I told him I was uncomfortable giving that information. He asked me to confirm my postcode. I said that the one he said was wrong. He asked for my postcode, I said he could stick with the previous one he'd said (it was off by a few digits). He tried to confirm my suburb, I said the one he said sounded about right. Then I got off the phone. He called back 3 minutes, this time he knew my name! Which I didn't provide. Then he asked for my husband's name again. I asked him to stop calling me and have blocked the number.

Each time these people have rung me over the last few years, they've claimed they're from a different 'bogus' government department. This time they called they said they were from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and started to offer help. I hung up and blocked the number.
