Found out who it was as they called back and spoke to someone. It's the Tasmanian Royal Guide Dogs. They get an automated machine to call you to find out what time you are likely to answer the phone, then it hangs up. A rep calls you back in a few days. Annoying....

Yes charities are exempt from the do not call register, but they are still not allowed to harras the public in looking for donations. next time they call, make sure they understand you will put in a complaint for harrassment against them as it is illegal.

I have had 3 calls a day for the last week from this number, I refuse to answer it and they never leave a message, so sick of these type of calls.

Calls everyday about 4 times no one there. I have blacklisted on our PBX.

If they just stopped calling everyone automatically they could just, you know, put their phone bill towards the bloody dogs.

How the hell do they get our numbers is what I'd like to know.

I've now read on other sites and this one that this number is guide dogs, a security firm, RSPCA and insurance brokers.

Sadly, charitable organisations (such as the Tasmanian Royal Guide Dogs For The Blind) are explicitly exempt from the restrictions imposed by the Do Not Call Register, and sadly some of these organisations abuse the privilege. Way to get your NPO a bad name in the eyes of the public, guys! When they call, you can ask them to be removed from their database, and they must comply. If they call again, ask to speak to their supervisor, and you should repeat the request to that person. If the caller hangs up at this point, or refuses to put their supervisor on, or if the organisation calls again after your second request to be removed, you should lodge a complaint at www.donotcall.gov.au

I have just emailed them at privacy @ guidedogstas.com.au demanding to be removed from their calling list, will let you know how I go.

just got a missed call from them then.  answering message said they were from the royal guide dogs chasing up a raffle book that i had with them.they call me every few months talking about raffle books.  i ALWAYS say yes to them sending them out, but Ive never received any raffle books in the mail, despite re-confirming my address with them stacks of times.starting to sound dodgey to me./

I am South of Hobart and have been called by this number a few times.  They never leavea message and hang up when answered.  They pick random times of day to call, includingevenings as well. Very annoying.

I've also been receiving calls from this number, rang 5 minutes ago, same time yesterday!starting to piss us off, they dont speak to us at all though. just silence, then hanging upthinking we're safe as we have 2 vicious rottweiler X staffys :) they'll enjoy trying to get into this house the f***ers. cant wait for them to ring back now knowing its some low life scum trying to rob people.

We started getting these calls a couple of nights ago and whoever it is always hang up before we get to the phone, usually around dinner time.  I've accepted Guide Dogs Raffles Tickets in the past but if is their new way of getting in touch I won't be buying anymore - it's really starting to annoy us.

I got on this site last night to see who had been calling and hanging up for the last three days.... It was very helpful in that I wasn't overly worried about the caller, being that so many people had been affected.

I live in NW Tasmania; tonight I was standing by the phone when this dreaded number pops up as a caller, I answered (a bit abruptly) the response was the voice of a Guide Dogs raffle ticket seller!!!!

Needless to say I told him I was unhappy with the endless hang-up calls and that I would not be purchasing any tickets as i did not like their procedures.  

He explained that they have a predictive dialler which only lets the phone ring for a couple of times then hangs up!!.

At least I now know it is not a prankster.

have received 2 calls from this number today,the caller hangs up when call is picked up.Like Victoria,I also live in Hobart & have recently received a call from a so called Security Firm asking details regarding home security.
