Just letting you guys know, this sounds like the phone scam recently making the rounds in which scammers are using your voice to gain access your personal and financial details from banking institutions.

My boss have been in contact recently with the Security Dept of his banking institution with regards to some illegal transaction made on his CC.

Surmising what the Bank said, apparently, scammers have been using voice recognition technology and prompting unsuspecting targets to say "Hello", "Yes" or/and "No", recording those responses and using them to contact banking institutions to access their financial details via the bank's online automation systems.

For example, you receive an unknown phone call, it hangs up. When you call back, you hear nothing, most people would naturally respond with " Hello?". In my bosses' case, he had received multiple calls from an unknown mobile but on the other line, the scammer (with a foreign accent) did asked him a few random questions "Is that <insert random name>?". Boss response "No". Scammer "Is this <Boss's mobile number>?". My boss's response "Yes". Then, scammer hangs up. Now armed with "Hello", "yes" and "no" recorded, the scammer was somehow able to access his banking details and also start a new CC using his personal details...yikes!

Most likely returning the call to (03) 4578 9658 prompts people to say "Hello".

The Bank managed to reimburse him and cancel the fake CC but he doesn't know if the bank pinpoint the culprits.

Morale of the story is, always be weary of unknown phone numbers not on your Contact List, or you are not expecting.

Some bloody energy company bollocks. I suggested they go forth and multiply. I've blocked their number.

Rang me tonight after 6pm. Blocked after reading this page.

This number calls every hour. When you call back you get a recorded message that says 'this number is not connected....'
Call centre annoyance that clearly doesn't take notice of the do not call register!

Step 1: save this number in your phone as "anti-telemarketer robot": +1 214 666 4321
Step 2: when energy compare call you, start a conference call with the anti-telemarker robot (if your phone allows this)
Step 3: put yourself on mute, grab a beverage of your choice, sit back and prepare for hilarity

Note: this will cost you US call rates, so maybe only do it if your plan gives you some free international calls...

Blank voicemail message with an automated good bye at the end.

It's a scam.

They are trying to record your voice, to then use with your bank etc.

Do not answer or say anything.

Wish I had of read this earlier. I answered grrrr and have already had my bank account hacked once this year by a similar process !!!

Had a call today but no one there when I said hello so hung up & dialled number which is "disconnected". Is there some dodgy person in one of the Telcos connecting so called "disconnected" numbers for these callers ???

Just called. Said he was from Energy watch. Said they were at 24 Arthur st in Sydney. Asked if I knew we should be getting a 42% discount. He hung up when I told him we were on the do not call register and he was being reported.

Same number has called me twice. I didn't answer. Called back to hear its Dissconnected.
I have now saved number as "Dissconnected number, Answer & Abuse!

Three calls over the past two days, all too short in duration to even make my phone ring - I only noticed once I got the message from MessageBank saying that they 'did not leave a message'.

Calling back resulted in the 'number not connected' message, as mentioned by other posts.

I have had very few unsolicited calls over the years, however, I have recently advertised items for sale on Gumtree & Car Sales using my mobile number as a method of contact, they could have gotten my info from these sites.

Call me every day after 1 or 2 hour now I put on block list!

Just had yet another call from an 03 number. This makes another to add to the 20+ I have already received this week. Calls like this every couple of hours

Keep missing calls... Phone doesn't even ring. When it does, within moments of me answering, it hangs up after a recorded message saying "goodbye".

Didn't even bother answering this one. Checked on here and glad I didn't. Blocked now.
