I just received a call from (02) 9686 6096 claiming to be from Amazon, saying they were going to deduct $79.00 from my account, but wouldn’t tell me why, only something about cancelling my Prime membership, which I never signed up for. Then he directed me to my computer, asking me to press the Windows key and R at the same time, and began instructing me to enter something, I don’t recall what – saying that someone overseas was trying to monitor my internet. I said “I don’t want to do this, have a nice day” and hung up.
I am fairly certain that Amazon would not make such calls.
I have reported this call to Scamwatch and Amazon Australia.
