Had calls from these people too, so annoying, I think the way it works is that they have an automated dialler that calls a batch of numbers (lets say 10, or 100) and as soon as one of them answers, ie the first connection, all the other calls are dropped so you get this hang up on you. They are so annoying as the elderly parents have to make an effort to reach the phone, the government has to regulate this nuisance, what are the people in charge of scamers/annoyance calls and privacy doing about this.

This number rang here today, let it go to answering machine/fax again, on the DNC register but that doesn't seem to matter.

How can these idiots making nuisance/scam calls be allowed to masquerade under the umbrella of 'charity' cold calling to numbers that are on the DO NOT CALL REGISTER.

I call on the Govt regulator to step in, ban and FINE them.

You cant get the DNC register to stop them, as they hide behind the "charity" banner ~ thus are exclude from any DNC register ... but you can still send the details to the DNC people and they will look into it. As for KWC org, they outsource the calling, but you CAN contact them and ask them to ask their outsource company to remove you from their call list ... its a bit of a fiddle and takes a few emails, but it does work.

They have now started ringing from this number, we are on the DNC register. I have no free numbers left now to caller ID and the calls keep coming. Do we just stop answering the phone?

I have had a silent number for 12 years and only started having problems when I gave money to a caller and now find that I'm being called by numerous charities and now they ring constantly, tonight for example 3 times and just hang up before I get to the phone.

They have tried on both of my VOIP numbers about 7 days apart with 2 different providers. I think they are just sequentially autodialing on voip...cost nothing.

I have also recently received a call from this number and am also on the Do Not Call Register and have a Private Number. I will not answer them again. Told them they had no authority to ring my number and not to call again.

They've just called me - they will be 31st scam caller listed in my directory. It's getting past a joke now. I've even had 'private numbers' and 'overseas calling' showing on my Caller ID. I refuse to answer any of them.

Do Not Call should mean exactly that.

We are on the Do Not Call register. We have a private unlisted number. We had a call from Tim - Childhood Cancer, trying to get donations. Which we didn't. My solution is to add these numbers to your callers list (if you can on your phone) and list them as "Scam Caller" (or "DNA" = Do Not Answer) so when you read the display you know to miss the call or answer and walk off leaving the line open for a while!

Ditto - my kids are getting creeped out by answering calls when no one answers - I'm looking into the telecommunications ombudsman to lodge a complaint

Unfortunately charities and those asking for donations don't have to listen to the Do Not Call Register. The problem with this though is that they won't take no for an answer. They will call constantly and leave messages. Have also answered the phone on a couple occasions where they have hang up on me as soon as I've said "hello". If people want to donate money they will... You don't need to call us continuously!
