same here - a pop up came up on my screen saying i have a virus and to call this number to fix it. when i called the number the guy said this was Apple. he then asked me what kind of computer i had (which seemed odd because he already said he was from apple) then i asked him what company he was from and he said apple. then he changed and said he was from Telstra and he wanted to remote in to my computer. I let him do that and he started writing things and installing what i now know is malware. He then said he could fix it all for $200 and he needed my credit card details to process payment. That was when i got suspicious and I unplugged my computer. I called telstra and the police and they advised me to disconnect the computer from the network and take it to a technician to see what kinds of viruses the hacker put on my computer. If there are heaps i will just transfer the contents of my hard drive, or at least the bits without a virus, and buy a new one. So annoying but i can imagine peopple could easily fall for that scam.

Yes, same message but to call iinet. I wrote down the phone number then force shut down Safari as the warning window kept popping up then ran a virus scan. Now seeing the number is a fake I am grateful for others posting their experiences! Still, doesn't get back the half hour of my time thinking I had stuffed my mac up...!

Does anyone know how to remove it as the explorer page is locked on this warning. If I use task manager and close it then run malwaresbytes to remove it and I then reboot. As soon as I restart the PC andI go back to explorer it re appears
Any ideas on how to remove it

A warning came up on my computer, i called the number and an indian man answered.
I asked what company he was from and he stated he was from 'Microsoft support centre' i then said well it said a different company that asked me to contact the number and he became choked up. I then said what do i do and he asked for my details and for access to my computer, i then said it was a scam and hung up.

I had this message pop up on my laptop today, citing Optus. I called the number from my landline and was sent to an offshore call centre (possibly India) and was given a spiel about being Support for Microsoft (when i mentioned I was a Mac user he was suddenly and Apple support centre!) He wanted access to my computer to resolve all of it's "problems" which I declined. If you've given them access to your computer, I'd be logging into all of my banding an social media accounts from a different device and changing all of my passwords.

I just had a popup alert like that too, I freaked out too when it said my personal details such as photos and credit card details are at risk! Instantly I thought my Mac pro should be protected and i also have Norton! But the alert wouldn't shut up so I was forced to call the number. the first call reception was really bad I thought that's weird for a tech support to have such a bad line. It sounds like oversea some where definitely not Sydney, I called 2nd time the guy said rather me show you how to diagnosed your computer why don't we just share the same screen and you can see me running and scanning your computer. I was thinking who the heck is this guy want to access my laptop! He also asked me what kind of computer am I using! what a scam!! Be wary guys!!!

Thank you for feedback. After reading comments I restarted my mac and well, it's fine. I also called the number and when they answered I told me where to stick it because of these forums.... Scum bags- surely they can be shut down!

Should i be worried that I gave permission to the person to look around my computer? When they told me I had to purchase mac care for $300 I found it suspicious and hung up but now I wonder if by allowing them in my computer they have stolen any info from me...

Far out I frikin dropped my nuts man when I heard the computer start talking about a warning. That was a first. I thought macs were protected but I guess maybe not in my case. I called the number but quickly hung up out of the thought that something didn't seem right. What should I do to be sure everything is okay? I've just shut my computer down and won't be usin it until I find out what to do next. Hope those ppl don't get away with their scams.

I received a notice on my Mac Book that a virus had affected my computer and to call this number for support. They asked me to take out cover with their Apple 3 Point security system and when I declined they became rude and pushy. Wish I had of searched the number and found this site before making the call.

I've had the same message but for Exetel. Since it's affecting multiple providers I'd suggest we have spyware that detects our internet service provider.

A warning popped up on my computer whilst I was growing that I may have a virus or spyware and that my passwords may have been compromised - they claimed to be from iinet. They asked to telephone for support on this number (02) 8607 8810. I have not bothered as it appeared to be a scam, but I have contacted by ISP to be safe.
