Received a "Critical Error" from Microsoft asking me to phone this number, otherwise my computer would be locked to protect their network. Went through the motions to a point and then my husband came in and told me is was a scam. They get your details and lock your computer, then ask for money to unlock. IGNORE IT!

One the the worst things you can do, is turning of your computer. If they have access to your pc, by enabling 'remote assistance' or 'infecting your pc with ransomware'. the first thing you should do is remove the network cable or disconnect from the network, then call a competent technician that offers onsite service. Most hijackers lock you out of your pc by using a "syskey" hack in the registry, it becomes effective when you shut down or restart the computer, this is why it should stay on, its the only sure way you have of removing the bug. If you can't get passed the boot screen when your pc starts, you can't do a scan or system restore or anything. If you fall for their scam, most likely you will get a helpful call from someone, who will offer to unlock the pc for a small cost, you will have control again and be forever grateful. They will do this month after month until you realize you have been conned

After clicking a link on Facebook, I got the above "Critical Error" message, supposedly from Microsoft, complete with American recorded voice, telling me to ring (02) 8599 4333 or computer will be locked. Checked this with my IT expert son, who told me it was a spam and to click Control+Alt+Delete and delete the iexplore applications in Windows Task Manager/Applications. When I did this the message disappeared and computer is fine.

SCAM number. From facebook ad. It's a browser pop up window. Less technical users might have trouble closing it. It seems to resist ALT-F4 and it's full screen so they don't have close buttons to use. on windows a speedy CTRL-ALT-DELETE and end task on the browser window shut it down. It appears to steal window focus. It also disabled or messed with volume controls - it was screaming in computer voices about virus and credit card information being stolen and to call the number.
Called the number out of interest - definitely scammers who work for everyone you've heard of according to them. Microsoft. Dell. They work for everyone.

When I went to open my Facebook messages, a similar message came up. It froze my computer and I had to close the computer down. Checking the number I came up with numerous other complaints. This is the second time this has happened.

I clicked on an ad to the right of my Facebook page and got the "Critical Error" message. I knew enough not to follow the instructions when I rang the phone number. Otherwise the operator could have accessed my computer and done who knows what.

i've had several calls from this number, not actually a call, but a message pop up on my computer, and it's always when u look at those ads that say, 20 photos of look what so and so looks like now, or one of those slideshows of odd photos, so don't look at them, and I simply shut down my pc and would never ring it. it's a total scam and not from Microsoft. don't fall for it.
