A message was left no name given no names mentioned telling us they would be taking legal action for tax evasion. Strongly doubt that this is ATO. Scam calls are a dreadful annoyange

There was a pause at the beginning - as is usual for scam calls. They left a message - unusual for scam calls, but not unknown. They claimed it was "a hotline number". "Unsolved and undelivered" were words muttered at the beginning of the message. Then there was a threat of legal action; they said "your phone is under surveillance." (There's only one thing my phone's under surveillance for, and that's SCAM calls. Telstra do that, if you call complaints and ask them.) They left the above # "for my lawyer to contact." They ended with a threat of arrest. Definitely not ATO/official, as they must follow proper procedure, and identify themselves. also you can ring the ATO (or whatever department they are claiming to be)on their General enquiries number that is listed onthe phone book or website. These would be on any tax document/standard official form.
RE: The scammer:DON'T call the number they leave and don't give any info and DON'T fill in any forms or visit any websites that they tell you about. They can make it look authentic.

Reported call to the ATO scam hotline - the recorded message claims that because it is the ATO it is exempt from the Do Not Call Register

Call centre scam, as described in the above messages. Why are they still operating given that Telstra has been notified???????

This number rang a work mobile and we got an automated message. I called back from another phone and spoke to a male with a foreign voice claiming to be from the ATO - the phone line was terrible. He wanted to know where I was from, and what the number of the phone was that had received the call. Told him the business name and said if he had access to the ATO records he should be able to tell me the number that was called. He got defensive and told me not to call again and not to waste his time or energy - maybe I should call him back a few more times this afternoon!!!!!!

Yes left automated message about tax evasion and to get lawyer to contact the number. so glad i could check here to confirm..confident that i have paid all tax honestly. Scammers...ridiculous!!

Same Message:: not addressed to anyone in my house..general "I am under survelliance and they will get me arrested"..I called them the person on the line couldnt follow simple protocols...someone should be able to block them from using this phone number...its appauling someone somewhere will get stung..

I got the call today the same threats as listed below, I called them back just to give them a mouthful & he hung up after 10 seconds. Also got the same call the previous day on (02) 8880 0211

Yep, I received one too, put the wind right up me....thanks so much for your blogs, has taken a weight off my mind....now I can get on with what I should be doing. Dirty scum bags :(

Just received a scam call from this number - they left a voicemail telling me due to my tax avoidance that they were going to issue s warrant for my arrest if I didn't call and make arrangements to pay.

i got a message in my landphone exactly threatening about arresting, when i rang back to that no, no one is answering. very annoying

scam phone call stating owed money due to tax, could not contact us at our address and we need to get a lawyer, just hung up.

I also got a call on my home phone number saying i was about to be arrested if I did not pay an amount of $41,800!!!
When I asked for an email giving me details to make the payment, they hung up!!
What a waste of time

Absolutely disgraceful scam! They called my 79 year old widowed mother and told her she would be arrested if she did not pay a $4000 fine today. Please do not call them back. Do not waste your time. It is an Indian call centre.

A scam. Threatening arrest for tax evasion etc. Totally bogus. Annoying that this is coming through on a business landline.
