I received this call this afternoon. He had a grff voice told me I had &7628 de from overcharged fees in bank fees. I made no comment.
He just asked me to get pen & paper, as he wanted me to takedown the names of the two managers involved. Ones was John Franklin. My cheque number was AS0206.
I had to ring immediately (02) 8006 8345 ask for this man & tell him my cheque number.
He asked me which bank did I want the cheque made out to . He went through a great list of Banks & even mentioned Credit Unions. I told him He had all my details except birth date/ Commonwealth, I do not have anything to do with them.
He ended by if I did not ring in 48 hours I wold lose the money. He said ring now OK which I said I would & I ended the call. He had all my details except birthdate. We did get cut off bt reconnected so fast asif it was a radio call not telephone.

My wife received the same call today was unfortunately gave them her DOB. So I called the bank and made them aware of what happened so that they flagged it in their system just in case.
Next, I called 80068345 and gave "John Douglas" who sounded very much Indian from a call centre, a piece of my mind. I will doing that everyday for the next 3 months just to piss them off.

Just received a similar call stating that I was owed $7000+ from the Federal Govt. because I had been over-charged on bank fees. (Last year it was claimed that I had been over-taxed and in 2012 I think It was a special tax bonus.) Anyway, the dollar amount is so precise (i.e. $7248.16) and the only information they need for identity purposes in your birthday (give them a false one) and your bank (also give them the wrong one) that many people may not realise that it is a scam. That is the hook. The bait comes next. Here is the phone number (02) 8006 8345) and your personal ID (PS 123). Swallow the bait at your own risk!
Warn your family and friends and advertise these scams on all forms of social media and hopefully reduce the number of victims.

I just had the same call, she gave me a story about being overcharged on my utilities and wants to give me $7,000 and all I have to do is call her manager with a reference number. She couldn't switch me thru because I need to prove who I am. She called me???
I don't think I'll call, sounds like a scam.

Refer to LEE'S comments on Jan 6 2015. Mine is very similar, except my "managers" names were Gary Smith and John Douglas. Rang Scam Watch. They can't do anything as the call is from overseas. The scary thing is they have my name, address and phone number.

My Mum got a call from this lot. (02) 8006 8345. They said it was $7000. They said they were from the "Reclaim Dept. Australian Federal Government, Angel Place, Pete Street, Sydney, NSW, 2333. John Douglas and Gary Smith, ID: AM 35. Mum said there had also been one quite a few months back offering $5000, except they didn't leave a return number.

Same thing. I don't know why the number can't be traced. The police could trace our numbers.

I received this call today. They asked me to confirm my address and surname, to which I replied "Don't you already have that on your screen?" And yes, she did. Very frustrating invasion of privacy. I am meant to be working from home today, but have wasted 30 mins looking into this scam!

Also had a call from this number 6/01/2015 claiming they were from the Federal Government with an amount for $7268 owed to me from over charged bank fees. The first caller informs you about the refund then you are required to contact (02) 8006 8345 and provide you with a ref No. The first caller asks if you prefer to receive the money through bank transfer or cheque and confirms your address. The second person when you phone then asks for your Ref No and asks for your DOB and which Bank you are currently with. I was also asked if I had photo ID of which I would need to provide when the Government Official came to my address to hand me the cheque and also the phone number that I could be best contacted on, making sure I would be home. I was then informed that I would need to pay a lawyer's fee of $250, this Lawyer is from overseas. When I inquired as to why they would use overseas lawyer's the man informed me that Australia lawyers cost too much money, $1000 which then makes it hard for some people to be able to pay. I was told that I would need to go to the Post Office and was asked how close the Post Office was from my home. When I inquired as to why I would be required to pay, I was told that it was because these lawyers had investigated the hidden bank fees on my behalf. I asked this person of whom I was speaking with his name and he told me Jon Douglas he then said that he would also provide the name of the lawyer, Richard Lee. When I asked why they could not deduct the money for the lawyer fees from the cheque he stated that they could not change the amount on the cheque because it was a Federal Government cheque. I was asked when was I able to go to the Post Office and I would need to contact him back for the details of how to proceed. I stated that I was unable to go until the Thursday. I contacted Police who then informed me to contact Scam Watch of which I did and asked if they provide the details of these people to the Police so they can be stopped. I was informed that most of these scams are from outside of Australia and the Australian phone numbers are generated by computer, so there is nothing that can be done. Surely there must be something that can be done? Police Intelligence need to track these criminals down where ever there from, they need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for impersonating a Government Department and taking advantage of the innocent and vulnerable, where ever that may be.
