Same story as above. Asian caller claiming to be from Federal Govt. Interestingly the refund amount is consistent $7268 as are the contact names.

Just a had a very similar call. The caller was Sam Smith ( with a foreign accent ) from the Reclaims Finance department ( Federal Government ) he had an amount of $7268 dollars he wanted to refund ( overcharge from banks ). Couldn't tell us what banks had overcharged, but one of his supervisors could ( Alan Jackson or Marie Edwards) if I rang them back on (02) 8006 4252.
I was also supplied with a reference no. PJ....
I refused to give bank details. Will wait and see if a cheque turns up over the next couple of days. I think I will be waiting for a while.

The exact same thing happened to my 80 year old parents. Thank god they were smart enough to doubt the caller. They said the same names as others have quoted. Obviously just scammers. Scary that they know your name and address, particularly for elderly people.

Yeah, similar call to Fred, they even emphasised the managers, Jackson and Edwards, and gave a case number, PC 117. They later called back from a caller ID of N000 because i would not call the above number.
They claimed that i had to call this number to receive the cheque, and said my details came from a "demographic survey". an amount of $7268 from overdraft and transaction charges. They wanted bank details or confirmation of birth date to send a cheque, but did not have any details other than name and address, likely from a reverse lookup database or account hack. When asked for the government department, they asked if i wanted the cheque and i had to call the above number as a deflection. I emphasised that I didn't need to speak to the manager if they were in the process of sending the cheque, and would gladly speak to them, if they would transfer the call, and in response, they re-emphasised that i did not want access to the money. Enough rope to seem eager, but also enough rope to hang themselves.
This also tied into the calls from "34685361" (another invalid Caller ID) about the "computer department" offering technical support.
In no way did this feel like an official call from the Federal Government, because i've worked in a call center for a government handout, and this wouldn't be their approach or their emphasis. I didn't deliberately try to obfuscate the details, but to check phone manner and deflection approach which others might be more familiar with.
In the future, i'm just quoting that i'm placed on the Do Not Call Registry and see how the caller handles themselves when i ask for the campaign name & operator name.
