Caller: Robocall, leading me to an Indian-sounding man, claiming to be from eBay Accounts Same deal. An Indian-sounding guy got me at at the perfect moment. I was in the middle of doing something complex, and I’ve been having a stressful few days, otherwise I would’ve gotten suspicious more quickly. There was no unauthorised purchase on eBay, and nothing had been taken off my credit card or out of my account via debit card. It seems the scam is to claim that a $199 gift card purchase was made with my phone (which doesn’t make sense) and he is trying to cancel it. I didn’t have a Zip account, so he helped me start to set one up. He created a Gmail account for me, to be used with Zip. He claimed that a cancellation code would be sent to my phone, and I had to send it to him. Most likely that was a code to complete the setting up of the Zip account. Luckily, I had to mute him overnight, and in the morning, I had regained my senses. He was calling me on a unlisted number. He really wanted me to call him on a number, which led me here. I looked up the number, and sure enough, it’s a scam.
