Received a call from a male (missed his name, maybe Indian) claiming to be from Australian Government Reclaim Department saying that I was entitled to a refund of over $7000 for overcharged bank fees. They asked if I would like my refund as a cheque or direct deposit. They had my phone number, old address and as I had moved asked to confirm my new address with my date of birth. I was given a management # to call back and start the reclaim process (02) 8006 0501) and a personal id #, I was also told that Angelina or Alison would be answering my call. When I rang the number given Alison answered and when I asked if this was a scam and for proof of legitimacy she hung up and when i tried to ring back twice more I got no answer. The original caller rang back a short time later and asked if I rang the management # I said yes and explained what had happened and he said that they were busy and then I asked him to send me proof as an email, he then said he would need my email and address. I told him he already had my address and he said he would send a letter.

Had the same thing - called talking about making a $200 payment through Australia Post to be eligible for a $7,000 credit of fees of overcharged bank fees. Definitely don't give out your bank details - is noted as a scam on the ACCC's Scamwatch website.
