Same Tax scam, twice today

i received a voice mail from(02) 8005 6533 requesting i pay immediately or will be arrested.

I called the number back and it was an indian scam center.

What is the government doign about this? other than standing around looking like tools

Don't understand this threat from a Pommy accented message left on my main box "as there is a legal case going against your name including a warrant for your arrest, now before the case is sent for execution and you receive the legal course of notification, you can call the taxation office on (02) 8005 6533, the number again (02) 8005 6533. Don't ignore".

My 91 y/o father called me after getting a call from this number. He wisely figured it was a scam and hung up half way through the recorded message - but thanks to others who have reported, I can get back to him and tell him not to worry.

Just another form of a Nigerian scam

Same experience as the others. Obviously a scam but a bit unsettling nevertheless.

but the male recorded voice message began by saying "this is the Australian Federal Police We have received a complaint about you from the Australian Tax Office". By then I had heard enough and disconnected the call.

called my 80 year old mother and left the message saying it was the ATO that there was a warrant out for her arrest I called the number for her and asked if it really was the ATO and they hung up on me.. I called back several times they hung up on me each time. I called the police this is well known to them as a scam and they are investigating - told me to let mum know don't worry.

I phoned them back just for the fun and I'm going to keep phoning them back just to piss them off. They keep hanging up but at least I'm tying up their phone lines.

Guy with a pommy accent just left the same message, arrest warrant etc etc.

This is fairly obviously (to me anyway) a scam. Have reported to Telstra and to ATO to try to get them to shut it down.

Had a call from (02) 8005 6533, saying the police were on their way to arrest me, and to call the Taxation office on such and such a number.
Surely these nuisances can be traced, and shut down.

Same scam - AFP ATO sending me to gaol - don't ignore - call back immediately ... didn't call back - ridiculous!

I was just called on this number and a prerecorded message told me I had committed tax fraud and there was a warrant for my arrest. I need to call (02) 8005 6533 without delay. Sounds totally legit. Not.

scam left message on answering machine didn't scare me they are idiots the taxation don't call people and make threats to people

Yep just them leave a message now - I have my accounts on MyGov so would receive an email not a recorded message. ATO should be able to do something because it's fraud.
