One way to deal with them. After the third phone call give them a warning. Tell them next time they call you'll blow a whistle down the line. I have actually used the whistle and it has been pretty successful

Just fell for this same scam. Caller stated my hardware was about to crash and my computer would be useless if virus was not located and eliminated immediately. I asked all above (company name, phone number and name/employee id) Then rang the given number 02 800 50464 which was answered as "Microsoft Technical Support". They then went through the Event viewer and asked how many 'errors' there were (21,000!)and stated that is why they would have received the warnings. Instructed me to press windows key and r simultaneously and then continued to give me codes to 'locate the virus'. I became increasingly uncomfortable at not knowing what I was really doing and asked if they could ring back in an hour. Have since searched and now am worried WHAT I have done! I am also on the Do Not Call register. Unsure HOW they then got my number?!

Received a call from "Justin Bradshaw" with an indian? accent. Also got this number to call, but knew it was a SCAM. We are also on the Do not call register but still get these dropkicks. Am waiting for them to call back to let them now what I think of them, but they probably won't.

Just got this same call. Orginally they said they were from Microsoft, then Apple then finally Global IT. Their phone number (02) 8005 0464 did not match Global IT and they gave me two sydney addresses. I have passed on details to ACCC and police.

These people phoned me tonight (Alex Bolton ID MSO98, Indian lady though) claiming to be from Windows 7. Same story, computer errors and they could help me fix it by pressing the windows key, then ALT and R as soon as I heard this I knew it was suss. I looked this up it seems to be a common scam going around. Its disgusting

These people are the pits. They have absolutely harassed my father in law every weekend for a month or so, claiming they (Jack ID 0786) (02) 8005 0464 were representing Bigpond. They provide anti-hacking email software to Telstra and Optus - sure. They managed to gain access to my father in laws computer which we have since had cleaned. But these people are praying on the elderly - so be careful "WARNING WARNING" I will be posting on www.scamwatch.gov.au

received a call from their, mid 30s Indian woman claiming my computer has problem and asked me to turn my computer on.
Initially told me they are a department of Microsoft and I asked for their company name, eventually told me is Global Information Technologies, address "christ church rd" in Sydney [non existent]. Asked for their ACN, but gave me their phone number instead, (02) 8005 0464.
Finally I asked the caller's own phone number, at which point she hung up...

He said his telephone number was from Total I.T. and their phone number was (02) 8005 0464 (sure) - When I asked him for an A.B.N.(Australian Business Number) number he didn't know what I was talking about? Lady rang and was quite pushy that they had detected a virus on my computer. I played along briefly until I got the name of the company she was from (Global Technologies Microsoft - lol) and the phone number (02) 8005 0464). Then I told her I knew it was a scam and I would be reporting her to the Federal Police - didn't know anyone could hang up the phone that quick!

Peter S

Scammers  from India wanted me connect my computer to their website to control it.Gave me this number. How do we find out which voip provider supplies the number so we can report the scammersBut wasnt very helpful when i asked him to spell the company name and address - hung up after I requested the spelling

Steve

What are they going to do when they have taken control over the computer?

Sam

These people are calling me claiming that my pc is sending error reports to them and they want me to purchase an extended warranty from them. The employer id numbers they gave me do not come up on that company employee list and the phone number they gave me does not seem to exist. I want to know if this is a con or not.

jis kisi ne bhi likha hai tumri maa ka chode, who has written this his mother f***er, bandh karo chutiya giri nhi toh tmhari maa ko chode

RM

Excactly the same as me. Some Indian lady claiming to be called "Anna", from "Sydney", working for Microsoft Online Technical Help.  Lucky for me my pc was down that day so she wanted me to call her back but that aint gonna happen.  The best way to deal with this is to ask question so they know you aren't silly, and then report them online to SCAMWATCH (www.scamwatch.gov.au).  These scams come up every now and again.  The scamwatch website has a page describing this very scam but it's from 2010, so it's time we got them back onto the dodgy people.  How dare they!

matt

contacted my senior citizen friend....same scam...wanted credit card number........unfortunately....my friend allowed him to tel net into his computer.....he does not keep any finincial info there so hopefully, no damage..laughed at me and challanged me to catch him...
