I received a call from an Indian too, this afternoon 2/12/13, saying they were from the Australian Federal Government, saying that i had been over charged for the last 2 years for Water, electricity and various things in the shops and as a result the government were going to refund me $5800, I could either have a cheque sent to me or give my bank details and the money would paid into it. I told them that I did not think this would be the case, and asked again who they were, they said from the Autralian federal Government. They had my address but an old one. He said he needed to clarify one thing before they could send the cheque if that is what i wanted, and that was my date of birth. Luckily I was suspicious so said No I was not interested. The guy then said I could ring his supervisor and check, and gave me a phone number on sydney with a reference no. He said to phone as soon as I put the phone down. I did this BUT to the police! Who were very helpful and took the number and phoned them, she did not let on she was police but when she started to probe further the (supervisor lady!) got very defensive and hung up. BEWARE!!!

Just got a call 13/11 from an Indian and would you believe my luck, he was from the Australian Government and they owe me $5283 in overcharging from the banks. I must ring Rose Brown (02) 8003 7387 and give an identification code which remarkably resembles a code on a box of tinned fruit from SPC Ardmona. Well I suppose someone may fall for this but I just made up a fake birth date and let him talk, I have plenty of time to waste. These people are just sport to me.

These c#@ts just called my elderly mother and managed to get her date of birth, after they already knew her address and full name. They gave her the whole spiel about the $5200 that the government owns them, then proceeded to tell my mum to go and pay $199 legal fees at the post office, so that they could release the $5200 cheque to her. I called this (02) 8003 7387 number and as soon as I said the word "scam" they hung up on me (within seconds). I phoned back from a different number and blurted out a few profanities to this lady (the ring dial was an off-shore tone and the lady had an Indian accent). Mum now knows how to deal with them next time... but to whom do we complain to get these bastards locked up?

Hey, same as all of the above. This is serious stuff ! If they get hold of some of our aged pensioners they may just be silly enough to go & pay these solicitor fees. Ref given BC619 & speak to Angela Cooper or Jen Smith. I rang back saying im a detective with AFP & i think they shat & hung up on me. I genuinly think Police need to get involved in this !

A woman named Angelina Cooper called mum saying that the government had over charged her and she was entitled to a refund of $5248. Gave a phone number of (02)8003787, then wanting mum's bank details. Mum of course does not know this. The woman then said she would ring back in 20 minutes. So she calls me in a flap. I call the number on the house phone but it kept dropping out, think because it is a blocked number. So I called using the mobile which of course answered. The line was bad, scratchy sounding like in a call centre. She said that she would call me back on the landline - I gave her the house number, in 5 minutes. (Am still waiting). I then did a reverse number search, and found that it was a scam... similar story. Reported on the Scamwatch website.

I just got off the phone with a mr A Copper! from the government who told me i was getting a faire amount of cash as my bank had been overcharging me, i explained i don't have a bank account he told me i was still getting the pay-out, he then asked me to confirm my DOB so i made one up which somehow matched what they had on the system! gave me the (02) 8003 7387 number and said they would be waiting for my call. have't called, i must say i am surprised that they would try a government scam on a public holiday!like the government works on a week day before 10am let alone on a public holiday!!!! roflol

Has all your information, just wanted to confirm DOB and asks you to call his supervisor on the (02) 8003 7387 and mention the reference number (which even sounds incomplete) .... and they will refund you $5,000 + .... sounds too good to be true hey ?
You're absolutely right, it surely is ... just another scam.

I just got a call from these people. They knew my address and DOB. They told me I was going to be refunded $5000+ for overcharges from my bank. They told me to ring this number (02) 8003 7387 and to quote a reference number so they can send the cheque. I confronted them about not being legitimate and they hung up.
