I have now received a number of calls from the same group but the number varies. This number is identified as calling from Canberra but I think the call is diverted overseas. Calls come to my mobile. Generally it is an electronic message telling me the call is from the Taxation Fraud Department and an arrest warrant will be issued for me unless I call them back on a specified number.
Today I rang from a landline the number from which I received the call. Heavily accented man answered and gave his name as Hoffman and said he was from the Tax Fraud Dept. He wanted my name and the mobile number on which I received the call. When I refused to give personal details without knowing the reason for the call he told me to "get lost" and hung up.

This is definitely a scam, I had a missed call from this number that left the following (robotic) message:
"We are calling you from the legal department of the Australian Taxation Office, the reason for this call is to make you aware that we have received an affidavit against your name you have been listed as a primary suspect and your house is under surveillance so do not disregard this message and call us back on (02) 6190 0603......
Remember a delay in calling us back may end in legal prosecution for you."

Also got an automated voice mail message from this number with same message as Jeff notes in his comments. I received this call the day after another message from a similar number (02) 5306 2280 with similar claims.

Block the number and ignore or call them back just for the sport. Lol

I also had this call today and called the ATO to report it. It is definitely a scam.

Had two calls today from alleged ATO Fraud dept, first one was No Caller ID with accented (sounded american) telling me I have a warrant against me, I told him scams dont work on me and I hung up as I was busy (like most self employed people) , the 5 hours later an automated recording for the same action against me and the house is under surveillance blah blah, this time the Caller ID was visible, so here it is (02) 6190 0603.

I know it's a scam as ATO just don't cold call business owners this way and especially if your accounts are all up to date and paid .

dodgy tax recorded scam

I received a call yesterday from (02) 5306 2283 which was a fraud. Today I received another call from this number and it was an automated voice from the tax fraud department. Same company. There must be something that can be done about this?

The sooner the Pakis get pissed enough and nuke India back to the dark ages (quite frankly, not much of a journey for them) the better.

Scammer claiming to be from the ATO (tax office)

from overseas advising of tax fraud and they have received an affidavit on you. another scum who should be shot.

SCAM - Recorded voice saying they are calling from legal department of Australian Taxation Office and that I am under surveillance and my home is being watched due to a taxation debt. The message goes on to say don't ignore and to call back ASAP
