This is a scam claiming to be from the ATO, that my house is under surveillance and I should ring them back.

Yes, I got the same call just today and it gave me a real scare. The guy had me hooked for 30 mins before I realized it is a scam - guy was alluding to a settlement over the phone. Right after, I called ATO to ask about a legal case against me, there was none of course! And I reported all the details I know of this scam. The comment here is very very helpful!!!

This scam call was on my message machine. I am sure it is the same one who called a neighbour of mine last week and freaked him out. Wish someone could actually do something about these scammers as they cause stress to some people.

This is a SCAM. Calling people, pretending to be from the tax office and demanding money, saying they will come around to collect it.
