Caller says he is from the ATO about my tax fraud. As far as I know the ATO will contact you if there are any issues via mail, not email or phone, loved the end of the message to me to have a blessed day after threatening me with court action. GOOSE !

Yes. Called this number. They guys says he is from the ATO and i'll be arrested tomorrow for tax fraud. Convincing enough to be a bit freaky but definitely a scam

Yeah my friend got a call from them to day for the same thing. Called ATO and confirmed it is a scam.

Same as above scam, they called me and told me I was getting arrested for tax fraud (terrible lies) such a scary person

I received the same message and when I called them back and commented that I thought it was a scam they hung up on me. I tried calling back several times but they never answered the call.

This number is an illegal scam trying get personal information and will use this to either gain access to your accounts or hold you at ransom to avoid "legal petition in the commonwealth court of your area" (not a real thing in Australia). This has been reported to the ATO fraud department. As a reminder the ATO will never call you directly with matters regarding tax evasion or ask you for personal details, if you do get a call from the ATO please ask for a reference number and call them back on 13 28 61.

I have also received a call informing me to call this number, I called and requested they confirm the department they were from and they disconnected the call. Clearly a scam

I just had the same call - designed to scare you with fear of legal consequences. I reckon it is a scam too.

We have received the same call today for the same reason, I am sure it is a scam. I prepare tax returns for a living so not likely to jeopardise my job by committing tax evasion or fraud. I will contact the ATO to find out if this is on their radar.

Same as Margaret, claims he is from ATO Canberra Head Office and have filed proceedings against me which requires urgent attention, did not quote any reference number just a phone number which he repeated and again stressed the urgency of the matter definitely a scam.

Message left on voicemail saying to contact them ASAP as they had filed a petition against me in court for tax fraud and evasion. Ha ha ha ha ha, wish I'd have answered it now, would've had a ball with him :)

I have spoken with the Taxation Office and they have confirmed that it is a hoax. They suggest that next time you receive a call like that, do not give away any of your personal information but try and get more information from the caller, ask for a name, which department they are from. Any information would help them to investigate further. Any calls of this nature can be reported to the Taxation Office on 132861

Got home from work to find a message "from the ATO" on the answering machine. Threatens legal action relating to tax fraud if I don't call back straight away. Weird Indian/American accent and glitches in the message indicate it's an automated scam.

Yes this caller has an American Accent says he's from the ATO, Canberra. I also believe this is a scam. Says about tax fraud and tax evasion.
