My mum also received a call. All the info they asked was correct. They offerd $6k+ My mum was concerned as they had all the correct details. No banking details of which she refused to divulge.

I also got a call saying I was owed $7000 + from incorrect interest charges from the bank and from grocery shopping. As I was preoccupied at the time of the call when she said to me do you live at .... I gave them my date of birth.
They also said to claim this money call their Supervisors named Gary Smith or Rachel Williams on (02) 6100 7786. I did not call the number cause because I thought the person calling was Indian and was rushing through her dialogue without giving me time to think. After the operator hung up I thought what an idiot I was because I gave my date of birth.
This is definately a SCAM. I was just caught off guard STUPID ME. I will be reporting this to the office of Fair Trading and I would suggest everyone else do the same.

Feeling duped I only got offered $2503.00, he wanted my bank detials to pay it in and I asked for a cheque made to cash that's when he hung up on me. The names to ask for were the same as below Sophie Williams or Alan Johnson.

I did the same thing yesterday. Child #1 grizzling, Baby #2 screaming. Indian man telling me that the Aus. Gov. was refunding me $6000+ for over charges by my bank. He had all my details and wanted to confirm my D.O.B and address. I wasn't thinking clearly and gave my date of birth (against my nagging better judgment) He gave me a case number and 2 department managers names (Alan Johnson and Sophie Williams) and told to ring (02) 6100 7786 tomorrow at 10:30am so his supervisor can release my money to me within 2-3 days (pfft! im sorry, thats too fast for the government lol, red flag!) I hung up I put the number he gave me in here, I feel so stupid for not going with my gut. I immediately called my bank, and was reassured that the info I gave him cant be used to access my bank accounts. Needless to say, I wont be calling at 10.30 today. What a pack of scum bags!!

My wife just got a call from the lousy Indian lady Rachael Williams and asked to call back (02) 6100 7786. Said we were to be paid $7268 by cheque and asked to give birth date to verify. Gave them false date and then was asked to pay a one off lawyer fee of $245. Yeah right...we are that dumb!

Far out the government giving us money back..... Pretty sure the accountant would hear before them lol

Who can we report these AH's to because there phone # comes up as private and as for the number they give you (02) 6100 7786 no one lays claim to it.

same story asked me for my birthdate so what you only need to look me up on facebook to get that, Ah I haven't called the number (02) 6100 7786. what are they looking for I don't get it

Definite scam was told I was owed $7000+ because of incorrect charges, asked for my date of birth for "verification purposes". I said you rang me, why do you need to verify that it is in fact me? Told them to send a cheque out. Funnily enough haven't received anything.

Got a call from an Indian guy reckons his name is Paul Johnson, he works for the Reclaims Department of the Finance Department of the Australian Government. He said they were going to pay $7268 in over charged bank fees and he mumbled some other stuff. When he asked to confirm my date of birth I gave him a dodgy date and he didn't flinch or comment. Then when he gave me the phone number to call (02) 6100 7786 I was googling it while I kept him on the phone, and this page and many others came up warning of a scam. I starting pushing him for his real name and who he really worked for. Funny enough, he hung up on me.

I just got a phone call from Fed Govt saying I was going to get a refund for $7258. Gave me a phone number to ring with her bosses name of Gary Smith and Rachel Williams. REF NO TBTV26. I reckon it is a scam.

Parents got a two calls from this same mob of scammers claiming to be from a Reclaim Department Sydney, Federal Government and an refund of $7927. Caller's name claimed to be Raj Villam or similar, Indian sounding. Bosses name said to be Mal Lewis. Beware!

Indian male called saying I was entitled to ~$7000 refund from finance dept of Australian govt. He wanted date of birth and bank account details for refund. Gave his managers names as Richard Williams and Max Lewis and told me to call (02) 6100 7786 to verify. Beware! Totally a phishing scam!

A cheque from the Federal Government Finance Department, sure!
Unfortunately some poeple will believe it and give their details and get ripped off.

I think it is disgusting that these people prey on older people in particular. Shame on them all.

I was also just informed by an indian male that I would be receiving several thousands from the federal government due to bank overcharges. As if the Abbot and his mob would repay for a bank's mistake! Do they think we are that stupid to believe that rubbish.

Indian lady left message said i will be reimburse $7268 from the federal government and to contact sharon james on (02) 6100 7786 to arrange, something due to charges from retail shopping, utility bill payments, blah, blah, blah ...
