The offer is getting better they offered me $5248.00, I have reported it to Scamwatch a website run by the ACCC

A call was placed to our rental home and the caller wanted to speak to D Gould. ....not knowing my Christian name.
My daughter in law took the call and she was told they wanted to know why the government wanted to deposit $5000 into my account. She passed on the telephone number above and a reference number. The caller's name was Jennifer

WARNING SCAM ALERT
I got a call today from a lady saying she was from a Aus Government Department and I was entitled to $5200 rebate he they wanted to direct deposit the money I said no post a cheque he said I will once I had paid $199 to him which was the processing fee for the overseas solicitor who does all the work, he said to call him back from the post office I asked him to post me an invoice so I could pay him he said no I will give me the western union bank account details to deposit the money and that's when I started to tell the scammer to get F'd I feel for people who get scammed thinking they will get all this money, the ph number he gave is local (02) 6100 1883 please pass this on or for some fun block your number and abuse the sh*t out of them!!!!!

Well I am clearly more deserving than most - I was told $5348!!!!
Same woman - am guessing - same thick Indian accent - got very angry when I refused to give her a reference number and demanded to know which department of the Australian government she was from - told the "Australian Tax Department"!!!! Need I say - this does not exist!!!!

same story today - $5400 in bank overcharges

Same call as many above. Woman caller with a heavy accent. Promised $5285 refund due to overpayments. Gave manager, Christopher Duncan's number to call to verify that call was legit. Found it here instead. Very likely a fraud.

Scam number is still active. (Nov 2013) had a call today claiming to be a government department with money to refund me. Stumped her when I asked what the weather was like in the ACT today (and she took ages to guess what ACT meant).

Indian woman phoned my landline (showed as an overseas caller). She confirmed my name and said she was from the Fed Gov and that I was selected for bank fee/charges audit that found I was due $5,248. She confirmed my address and quoted a reference number and a cheque number. She then asked me to phone her manager, a 02 number, and give him the reference number and confirm my address upon which he will mail the cheque within 24hrs. I did not phone her manager so take for this what you will.

Just received the same call. Except they didn't ask me for any money. Do people really fall for these scams.

Contacted claiming the Federal Govt owed me $5000 odd dollars and to ring the manager's number (above) to claim the money. Wanted an upfront payment of $199 to process the fictitious claim. Reminiscent of the Nigerian Scams. Sounds Indian in origin. Beware.

same thing telling me got a cheque from gst charges rang number and told them how can we stop them

Caller said Government would pay me $5000+ but I needed to deposit some money first. Caller hung up when I said they were frauds.
HOW CAN THEY GET ACCESS TO YOUR PHONE AND BE ABLE TO RECEIVE CALLS TO IT. These people are rogues and should be stopped. What are you doing about this situation, surely these people can be traced and dealt with through the courts.

Same here except it is $5,000.00 for the overcharging of fees from my bank.
Yet she wanted to know if I would accept a cheque from the Commonwealth bank.
My answer no problems.
Now I wait.... recon it's going to be a long wait.

Received a call to tell me that I had a cheque of $5245 waiting for me if I call this number. The reason given was something to do with paying excess credit card or bank fees and it was a refund.

A lady calls you and say you won grant from Australian Grants Department and ask you to deposit western union for charity. Guys please be careful and dont give any details or money.

the lady tried to say if i went to australia post and made a donation of $200 ( to poor orphanage children) as i had been 1 of 500 people in australia selected by my government that i would have $4700 deposited in to my bank account... can someone say SCAM

Lady called me from this number claiming I had won a lottery of $4,700 from the government and that I should donate part of it to a charity via a Western Union branch.

The lady from this number tried to get money on the name of false charity organisation.
