We weren't asked for any upfront payments (yet?) but were given the same spiel on the phone and were suspicious. Woman (with Asian accent) who rang claimed to be from Department of Reclaims and said that we were owed $5000 in overpaid bank charges.
Told to ring (02) 6100 1883 and speak with Neil Parker and quote our Ref number. When we rang the number, we were told to ring back in a few minutes. They confirmed our postal address so that they could "send our cheque"

They must have just started again, got a call same amount, asked for DOB (did not give it), knew my name and address (my name is not in phone book). Beware

Same Scam (02) 6100 1883 manager with ref# contacted do not call register advised to contact telephone provider and have overseas calls blocked, this works with *****TELSTRA & DODO*****, so good Luck

Are the government aware of these scams? If so,it's about time they did something about these fraudsters .I have just had the same call.

Same deal here today. She also sounded like the same lady who rang me yesterday from microsoft and wanted acess to my computer. How do they get their information, i am aways careful who i give information to.

I have also been contacted to collect a refund of $5248 for bank fees. This was a woman with an Asian accent who didn't like me asking her questions but just wanted me to ring her manager on this number and quote TA091 as a reference. Needless to say I have not followed up on this generous offer.

Same as all above, told I would receive money $5248 being refund for overcharging on bank charges. Needed my date of birth (didn't give it as they always ask for it) I said if you had information from Federal Government you would know all you need to know. She gave me reference no:TA091 and said to ring her manager on (02) 6100 1883 making sure I repeated the numbers given to make sure I had written it down. I asked for her phone number & she would repeat the other numbers, I said if she didn't tell me I would think this was a scam, to which she replied "if you think this is a scam don't ring" then hung up on me. Last year I had three of these call in the same week exactly the same. Something has to be done for the poor people who get caught with these scams.

Same as the above, so this is still going on... they go through the whole speil about being owed money etc, but then ask for your DOB!! Don't give it! If there really were the ATO, then they'd already have it!

I had the same phone call from the same indian woman and said I had a $5,248 refund coming to me via cheque, told me to ring the number and when I did I was told that it was closing time and to ring back tomorrow, I thought it was odd and I am not going to call back.

A lady with indian accent called about government owed me money OF SUM OF $5248.she knew phone no, address and DOB. She gave me ref no and told me to call her manger Christopher Duncan on (02) 6100 1883 .but didn't call because something seemed wrong so I looked up the number and found complaints.

Same deal here. To get the refund i must pay $ 199 through western union at the post office first. Yeh righ!

All I can say is the Australian Government must have alot of spare refunds available. Funny thing, they all seem to be for the same amount. $5248.00. The caller hung up when I said "You can deduct the fees and forward the balance by cheque."

Same kind of implausible claim that the Australian Government wanted to give me $5248 returns on fees. No bloody way Mr Abbott would sign off on that - and if he did it would be *all* over the papers like the 2009 Stimulus package. I didn't follow through enough to figure out how they were going to wring money out of me - I'm sure there's a way. Interesting lines, though - "Do you know why you are getting this refund?" Happens I *am* expecting a refund - eventually, and nearly this much - but that department won't call me; they'll just send a letter which will arrive a few days *after* the money turns up in my bank account. Saying why I was expecting money would give the caller a good chance at some 'cold reading' - you know, the same techniques fake psychics use? The Australian Government doesn't use call centre operators with thick indian accents.

yep got the same call yesterday indian women saying was entitled to 5,248 buck rebate on phone electricity knew name address everything gave me ref no phone number 02610014883 to call a steve Harmison yeah right I'm not as green as I am cabbage looking lol. Feel for the elderly though who are at risk of being scammed by these low lifes.

Indian accent female called my landline. She insisted that the Australian Federal government had $5248 to give me, due to the banks over charging me on deposits and withdrawals. I check my bank statements all the time and I have never been overcharged. I knew this was a scam and hung up.

Yes - just got off the phone from them - same story....my reference number is YA100 if anyone wants my share hahahaha!

They must be looking for Christmas money!!

This is December 2013. The same story today as in 2012 above. They had my correct details, but I did not ring back.
