I was browsing a contract site when an alert message appeared.. Warning that information was being stolen, i.e. Credit card info, Facebook info etc and to call the number flashing in the screen. We called and a man with an accent and background noise answered.
He was rude when we questioned him. It was extremely suspicious, he asked that we link him into our computer so he could fix the problem.
DO NOT CALL THEM.. DANGEROUS SCAM

SCAM-- asked for name, age, occupation, how often I use the laptop, how my network was connected etc then went through all my settings remotely then had the audacity to ask for the minimal charge of $99 to remove the infected files etc. THEN hung up on me!!!

I was actually unwell on Friday evening, I also got a pop up to say, I had to ring 1800 431 228. I did ring, but my hubby was listening as I had it on Speaker phone - I tried to speak with a person who had a very loud background noise, I kept saying I cannot hear you..... they wanted to know what my problem was, then to press Microsoft key and R at the same time, DID not work, THEN I got told that with my permission he would put me through to another person, a tech guy, there would be a charge of $199:00 US - I spoke with my hubby, he said, no way. I kept on the line as I was not wanting to go further, I got put on hold a couple times, then asked again did I want to be put through, I hung on not feeling like I wanted to go any further, yet, NOT sure what to do. My Hubby said he would do a full system scan - told guy we are doing a scan, he got a little annoyed with me........ finally he said, he had spent long enough, AND HUNG UP ON ME......... But how lucky were we..... seriously. ** Note, Our full system scan did not detect anything a miss, AND my computer is still fine - I think it was a Scam also.
