Caller: HSBCAU Message read "Your NEW Payee J Hong has been set up successfully. If this was NOT you, call us on 1800 418 435." I don't have a HSBC account and I called back. Call started with the answer machine like google, but doesn't sound genuine since banks usually record their own machine voice. Man with slight Malay accent asked for my name so he can check. I asked him to call back on an HSBC number on website, and they did through (02) 9005 8192. I then called the real HSBC whom verified the SMS is for sure a FRAUD, but they couldn't tell how those guy made to call through the 9005 number. In conclusion, HSBC AU will not call you directly. Anything related to this number 1800 claiming to be HSBC is a fraud.
