I clicked on a harmless website...then computer was blocked claiming to Windows Defender...I had to ring ( so called ) Microsoft Support on 1800 417 793 to unlock my computer. Stupidly I downloaded an app to give the technician access to my computer....I'VE BEEN HACKED !!!

Caller: 1800 417 793 My mum called me saying she clicked on a news website and a warning came up with a women’s voice saying she’d been hacked and to call this number to unlock her computer. I told her to just unplug and reboot the computer. She did that and everything was fine. Do not ring the number and do not download anything.

Similar to other posters; AI type voice telling me to call to lock. Just turned off and restarted. All ok. This is an old scam from a couple of years ago. Tries to embed a program that will gather all your data/info.

I received a call from this number at about 4.00pm today (21/10/24), and I got a bit suspicious about its content. I hit "control, alt, delete" as I was told to do on a previous occasion, and fortunately caught the mongrels before they could access my PC. The threat seems to have been avoided. PLEASE AVOID OPENING THIS SITE !
