Looked up 1800 317 246 before deciding whether to call back. Sharing what I found.

I was told to call this number in a phishing SMS purportedly from PayPal about a transaction made on my account, that would go through in the next 24 hours if I did nothing. No transaction was actually made. The SMS told me to call the number above. It was obviously a scam, because PayPal, inc was written as PayPal*inc.

Caller: Text message from karmenpius @ yahoo.com

I have closed my PayPal account this week because they let subscriptions that I have canceled go through again even after I have notified them about the cancellation and 4 days later I received the below message.

A peer to peer transfer has been made from my wallet $ 500 to Emma Clark for happy birthday day, Adelaide, requested me to to contact 1800 317 246 if I didn’t send this payment.
Be careful everyone.

Received a SMS stating $500 had been taken from my PyPal account to a James Wilson’s ANZ account Brisbane., if I hadn’t transferred it please ring 1800 317 246,
I never clicked on links but it was already in my scam box, so have deleted and reported to Scamwatch

Was under email jessiawalman @ yahoo.com. Talking about verifying some $500 transaction that never occurred. Scam. Don’t act on anything.

Received text from kelvon4heaven @ gmail.com allegedly from PayPal regarding a $500 transfer from my PayPal wallet to James Wilson ANZ bank Brisbane. Advised if that wasn't my transfer, to contact PayPal support team on 1800 317 246. Please do not click on any links or contact this number - Reported to ACCC and Scamwatch.

I received message to call this number too from kandisrunck @ yahoo.com. Clearly a scammer.
