Sad they were calling from Westpac about a private banking matter and asked me to verify my name and date of birth. I told them to tell me and they knew it! I refuse to confirm it and told them I’d call Westpac. He told me to call 1800 067 497 and press 2 then 0 He sounded very weary and flat. Very dodgy!!

Like everyone else I have been called twice per week from an unknown number. This time I told them my middle name was not correct and therefore she couldn't proceed. Told me to go into the branch, told her I had already done that and that they told me they were not looking to speak to me and therefore these calls were a scam. Advised me to call 1800 067 497 press option 1 and option 1 and her employee id was L139-255.

Said they were Westpac and wanted me to verity my name and date of birth. I didn't give them the information and told them it sounded like a scam. He was very well spoken and told me he understood it soundy dodgy but he could guarantee he was legit, but he couldn't tell me why he was calling until I verified my information with him. Told him I wasn't comfortable doing that... he said, i can give you a number to call back on which was 1800 067 497 (which isn't a Westpac number).

Said they were from Westpac calling about an account matter. Wanted my full name and DOB but I was suspicious (even though did not have an Indian accent as usual with spam calls).I said I would not give her personal details that could be used for identity fraud, so she gave me a number to ring: 1800 067 497.
However instead I rang the Westpac number that came up on their website, and eventually got through to human being and explained the situation to them. They checked and said the number was a legitimate Westpac number for some team, and he transferred me. The next person confirmed that their teams use this number. It turned out they have put a block on my Mastercard because I was a week over-due in payment and that was what it was about. I told him that getting a call from a "Private number" asking for identity details is just bad business practice and could easily be copied by real; scammers to harvest information, and asked him to notify his supervisor.

Caller: Male from Westpac

Unknown Caller ID. Left a message stating he was from Westpac and mumbled something about foreign banking investment and to call back on 1800 067 497. Sounded like he had too many barfi’s and was in a sugar coma. Sounds dodgy to me.

Caller: Pretend to be westpac

Someone with an Australian accent called me to confirm my identity details, but the call number was not displayed. I got suspicious and I did say I am busy, can I get the callback number, the message came back as Westpac, call 1800 067 497. I called 13 2032 and checked that there is nothing about my account. It is sad that personal information is shared with a name. Be careful not to answer calls without the number- provate number.

Caller: Claiming to be from Westpac

Indicipheral foreign accent claiming to be from Westpac. Said to 1800 067 597 or 1800 267 497, Both numbers not connected at time of calling.
Caller was basically incoherent and conversed not to the standard of Westpac finis & integrity.
Now awaiting a second call from wherever.

Same as everyone else here. Asked ME for MY details over the phone. I told him where to go, so he gave me Westpacs number to call to check for myself. Yet he was calling from a blocked number - it said unnamed rather than blocked. Clearly a spoofing call that can somehow hide his number. The number he gave me to check for myself, seems real, 1800 067 497, but it was clearly not him or his number - but a real Westpac no.. Stay away from callers asking you the tell THEM who you are!

pretty much the same as above they are using the most recent version of its a personal banking matter - did not call back but note they had my first and last name so this must be a hack of Westpac's contact list I have only been a customer for about 4 months

No caller ID incoming call. Sounded like from offshore due to unclear line. Said from Westpac about personal matter. I said I was busy and they gave me this number to call back which I won’t be doing.

Caller: Allegedly from Westpac

"No Caller ID" Called me twice and insisted they wont give me any reasons for this call unless i will verify my details first for them. Both have Indian accent and very intense of verifying my details first. I did not give anything to them, and he insist he is from Westpac and they need to verify me for security blah blah. I told them it will never happen. I told them to send me email instead. They have no email sending facility. duh! They want me to call back to this number - 1800 067 497. Did not bother! Be careful for this kind of modus.

Said they are from Personal banking Westpac, but this number is for financial hardship. I do not think I have any personal banking service with Westpac. Very strange. And they call me on daily basis. Very annoying. Should Westpac to take an action?

Caller: Call Message from ‘Unknown Number’ - Message to call ‘State Bank’ on 1800 067 497.

Call received at 1750hrs on 10.02.2021 from Unknown Number. Message left on Voicemail. The message was left by a male, possible Indian accent, who used my Christian name and said he was from the ‘State Bank’. He then said that I was to call 1800 067 497 and then emphasised that I use and select Option 1 first then use Option 2. The caller sounded slightly confused when repeating the number to call as he to it wrong when he repeated it a second time and then corrected it. The call, for all intents and purposes, seemed legitimate prima facie, but the use of the term ‘State Bank’ was the identifier that there was something suspicious about the call. We don’t use a ‘State Bank’ nor is there a bank of that name within NSW. It is clearly a scam call which should be ignored at all costs. It is well designed scam and obviously these scammers have put some time and effort into designing, planning and executing this. Therefore I suspect that we will see more of these scam calls but in future they may be more organised, better researched and polished to make detection more difficult. Suggest that we be well informed and continue to report these calls to enable our Domestic Security Services to keep abreast of these scam calls and allow them to undertake their investigations to stop or at least shut these down as they come up. Summary - Be Aware and be Careful.

If this actual reported number displayed when these calls were received then the scammer/s are simply spoofing a legitimate Westpac phone number and you have all obviously done the right thing in questioning the calls legitimacy (the unfortunate part is that some may not and may start to believe the caller when they state a legitimate Westpac number if for example the call receiver looked up the number given while the call is in progress). The number can indeed be found at the legitimate Westpac website via the following link: https://www.westpac.com.au/about-westpac/sustainability/initiatives-for-you/customers-financial-hardship/
