Just don't pay.
I didn't pay, 53k worth of unsecured loans and credit cards, for 6 years. The debt is now statute barred.
53k for free.

For those willing to stick it to the jerks, follow these steps:
(Really this only works if you don't own your home and the debt us unsecured)

1) Stop applying for any further credit - no mobile phone contract, foxtel, credit cards anything that will update your credit file.

2) Move - Don't connect any utilities in your name - Electricity, Gas, Phone or Internet - in my case my partner connected all the utilities.
Don't give out your address to unless absolutely necessary.

3) Change banks

4) Look for another job. Don't give your old employer any details of your new workplace or any of your work colleagues.

5) Close (ideally) or highly restrict privacy settings on any social media accounts you may have. They will search for you using any email addresses you've provided.

6) Answer any phone calls from these idiots, don't ignore them.
Deny liability, say you don't recall the debt, whatever you do don't say you owed the money, don't make any payments or agree to any payment plan - ever.
Don't give them your new contact details, say you're uncomfortable giving that information over the phone.
Be calm, firm and never abusive.

7) Don't use Australia Post to redirect your mail, get digital delivery for everything - really who gets snail mail anymore anyway.

8) Don't apply for an ABN or register a business.

So there, thats what it takes.
Use it as an opportunity to SAVE, all the money that would of gone to these crooks, put it aside and save for 6 years.

If any bank or finance company that on sells anyones 'ALLEGED' debt to a collection agency, is actually doing the Debtor a huge favour..Once the debt has been bought by the debt collection agency, the debt becomes securitised, which means the debt collectors cannot come after you.. But they will if you dont know your civil rights. So what happens is the mongrels hope and pray on the fact that the average punter is not aware of where they stand under common law. So they send out letters of harassment making all sorts of outlandish claims to scare and bully the punter.. these letters are just presentments or a offer to contract.. They follow due process under the law, so the worst thing you can do is not to do anything.. You must notice them, and promise to pay any alleged outstanding amount once they provide proof of claim, which they cannot do.. Its a very simple and totally legal process.. Just remember 'if you dont know your rights, then you have none'.

You sound like your an employee of this scab company who by the way you idiot buy debt from an insurance company or the stock market who have already paid the debt by way of insurance to the initial provider, then Lion "scab" finance pay maybe 1 cent in the dollar to buy that loan, then try to recoup all the monies owing. In other words stupid Lion Finance buy a $10,000 debt for $100, then by threat or intimidation they try to recoup the $10,000 you F@#$ tard...can you follow that or are you too stupid?

Did the wrong thing

I have done the wrong thing and was unable to pay my credit card debt which has been on sold to Lion Finance. They only started calling yesterday, I rang back today and they were super helpful and lovely! Nothing like the reviews I read here which in all honesty made me nervous to answer the call.
I know I did the wrong thing but obviously want to try and make it right, if you co-operate with them and give them all the basic information they need there is no issue.
Looking forward to clearing this debt and moving on

I ha e a real issue with these people harassing my mother when I haven't lived here for years and finally when I do happen to be overzealous, and answer the phone, ask me for confidential information over the phone to identify myself. I don't know who this person is- my ex knows these people are and could quite easily be trying to track me down- the number is the same the address is different. When I tires explaining this the young idiot on the phone said well we will just keep calling. That is harassment! Btw, I am Laing off this debt so I do t know why they are hassling me at all

I haven't dealt with these idiots in over 4 years, and have cleared my debts, so why when I received my credit file, have they requested info from Veda 8 times over 3 month this year.
I plan on ripping some new a**holes :)

Caller: ClearScore credit rating site

Last night I decide to check my credit history. Found ClearScore. Typed in my details and supplied my Medicare card number to link it with the government data base.
When my details for the report came up, it had an account supposedly linked to me: Lion Finance Au500xxxxxx60162. According to the report, I've missed payments to them.
Yet, how could I possibly have 'missed' making payments to a company I've never heard of, and who's account I'm supposed to make or have made payments to, didn't exist until 04/08/2020?
I can only assume that they - ClearScore - sell on the information to Lion Finance and/or other third party debt collectors.
In their T&C they state they don't handover information to lenders or third party lenders - I missed the significance of this, until I saw that name i'd never seen before come up on my screen with the opening date of their account.
Only possible through ClearScore.
Wonder what their kick-back is?
Be careful guys - even (or maybe especially) with credit rating sites. This sites had good reviews and is supposedly secure. Nothing is, right?

They had a very serious breach of privacy, where they sent me a list of clients, their names, and their debts. I reported them and they wrote off my debt and replied:

“Based on what you advised, and our investigations of the material sent to you, we have taken the proactive step of volunteering the details of our inadvertent disclosure to the Privacy Commissioner in order to be perfectly tranparent. In that correspondence, we clearly outlined:

• the situation in detail;
• our usual process for responding to a personal information request;
• we also advised that the staff members who were responsible for this will be counselled; and
• we will be reviewing our processes.

We request that you destroy any information that is not yours.”

They have been ringing me 3 to 4 times a day even at work. When I initially spoke with them I informed them that I was currently not able to make arrangements at this stage due to other financial commitments but I said I would contact them in the near future when I was in the position to do so. Not remembering from when this was but the debit is from 10 YEARS ago when I was in a relationship. Just some are inconsiderate. I have been doing my best to clear most of the debts from that relationship with no help from the other.

unemployed

Unfortunately, people are redundant, and find it hard to get jobs. They do NOT steal money from banks, they are in a bad situation - perhaps you have never been made redundant - My husband was put off 3 months before me. I had worked at the same company for 10 years and was put off. Unless you have been in a bad financial situation, please do not be mean. We have a mortgage, just a small 3 bedroom house, and yet someone said 'perhaps you should live within your means and not live extravagantly'.
A home is not extravagant when it is a small place, as we all need somewhere to live. When we both were working it was ok. now on unemployment at some $400 odd a fortnight each, things are tight. Most of us admit and own up to our debts, BUT people such as Lion Finance, who are complete and utter pigs, who say you should be paying off your debts and who cares about what money, if any, is left over. They are very stressing, and they have also called neighbors to get me to ring them back....At present I am sick with the stress and their rude attitude. Perhaps some others dealt with a lady, but I have a mean, rude man to deal with.

Not Happy - if the debt is not in your husband's name and he doesn't have a debt with Lion Finance, it is illegal for them to put a black mark on his file. Go to ACCC. Also, get hubby to go for car loan only in his name. As long as you are on the application it will get refused.

I do not tell any lenders that I am married. According to all bank records, loans, cards etc, I am single. That way, I get loans in my name and my husband gets loans in his name. Husband's and wives are not responsible for each other's debts unless you went guarantor for each other.

Don't trust liars

these low life grubs troll the discarded debts from banks and lenders and trick people into re activating debts already written off or just about too .
If the word lion finance appears say absolutely nothing , Go get some independent advise before admitting anything . Tell them the truth about there company/business is constantly getting reported for deceptive tactics and you need to be advised before you give any details as they are liars . record your conversations and write down in a diary every time you are contacted and threatened , record everything because they will breach the guidelines they have to uphold . Above all always remember they are LIARES .

Report their actions to ACCC and ASIC every time!

Caller: LION FINANCE/ COLLECTION HOUSE

Report everything to ASIC and the ACCC, go online and the forms are there.... its simple and easy and the more people that report their conduct the better.
They can cop massive fines if they harass you, mislead you, deceive you or not disclose information to you so just report what they do to ASIC and the ACCC.
They take advantage of people who dont know their legal rights and this too is considered "unconscionable conduct" that they can get fined for......
